I mean it's just logic man sure if his career gets cut short his weight may not be the one to blame but jumping up on every play when you are 285 pounds is that gonna help your knees? Every person is different but cutting your weight when you keep jumping on almost every play is can only help you not harm you. You also have to remember Zion is only 19 he hasnt even finished 1 year of NBA grind yet of course he would be fine. But long term will he still be fine? That's the worry people have and that's why they are telling him to lose weight and expand his range.
He should start shooting 3s and expand his range because the less contact his body gets the better off he'll be long term. Of course he is a beast on the rim but the question is how long does he want to be a beast on the rim? If he just wants a 10 year career of greatness and be a shadow of his former self at age 31 like Dwight, Blake Griffin, D Rose and John Wall then he can feel free to do nothing about his weight. If he wants 16 years of greatness like Lebron then obv he needs to do more work unless he is just super lucky. Actually Lebron didnt rely on luck yes he was born with godly genetics but he went the Kobe route and got a team of professionals looking after his weight and diet once he saw Kobe doing that in the Olympics. In 2014 he cut his weight drastically to lessen the load on his body as well. https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndic...ron-james-lost-weight-this-offseason.amp.html People were wondering what is up with that well 6 yrs later now we know. Lebron's still a super star the rest his batch are either retired or role players and the only injuries he has dealt with so far are groin tears and cramps lol. If Zion wants to be the next Lebron then he needs to put in the work by keeping his weight low. Obv thats not a guarantee he wont break something but I've never heard of athlete who became more injury prone after he lessened the pounding his body gets on a daily basis.
They all tried that extreme weight loss and quickly realized it destroyed their game and went back to their natural playing weight. Carmelo did it as well...
...And he is still playing now as a result right? I dont think that's extreme weight loss they look like normal people to me. Maybe their game suffers a bit ok but at least they can play longer. Look at Yao Ming he was amazing for 1-2 years maybe he if he was thiner his entire career instead of bulking up with 40 pounds of muscle like what Tom Thibs wanted him to do he wouldve had less injuries.
If Zion gets fatter and more sedentary he'll be 9x MVP, 13XFMVP and 12X NBA Champion. Dirty bulk it up Zion! Here's a hot meal with this hot take!
We'll see. When this was brought up at the beginning of the season, the following doctor's takes on it were linked. I found them to be quite informative about the actual physical mechanics of the potential stresses on his knees. And more than a little disturbing.
He was already thin but had a massive lower body while sporting high arched feet which are terrible at dispersing weight...
Because: (1) unusual for NBA high flyer, and, (2) physics, and (3) logic, combining 1&2 You can disagree, but the concern totally makes sense. I mean, good lord, you hear people kvetching about baseball players when they're heavy. Of course all-star type talent worths hundreds of millions of $ (or $400, depending on who you ask) is going to have micro-scrutiny. No offense, I just don't even see how your question is a question. It's not "weird" or obsessive to ask about Zion's weight and his gate.
Right but again like I keep repeating to people him bulking up and adding more weight hurt his legs even more. Keeping the weight off is not a guarantee Yao Ming wouldnt have been injury prone but you can't deny lessening the stress his joints had would've had a good effect on him.
Yeah this year. After 16 years in the league. If anything people should follow him and lose weight as well.
LeBron and Zion are very different athletically. Basically, no one ever thought he walked funny. He's very fluid, while also being very powerful. Zion might be more explosive...but than that very thing is what could cause injuries. Note the number of non contact ACL injuries in the NFL. Basically, the players got stronger than their joints. You think that doesn't apply to Zion, even if his strength comes naturally? I wonder if they've done DNA testing to see if he's susceptible (or super resilient to) things like knee injuries. (Yes, they can tell that from your DNA, for certain things).
So losing 25 pounds briefly in 2014 then immediately gaining it back has prolonged the careers Lebron, Melo, etc... Gotcha.
CP3 seemed to have cut weight successfully. Pat Bev seems less prone to injury also. Tim Duncan wasn't killing it when he lost weight but it surely helped to extend his career.
