DALLAS -- Former Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources told ESPN. A source said the Mavs released shooting guard Ryan Broekhoff, who shot 40.3% from 3-point range in 59 games over two seasons, to create a roster spot for Kidd-Gilchrist. Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2012 draft, fell out of the Hornets' rotation this season before receiving a buyout last week. At 6-foot-6, 232 pounds, Kidd-Gilchrist has earned a reputation as a strong wing defender. He will provide the Mavs a physical option to guard powerful, elite scorers on Western Conference playoff teams such as James Harden, LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard. Kidd-Gilchrist's jump shot is his biggest flaw, as he's a career 28% 3-point shooter. He averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 433 games for Charlotte. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...-michael-kidd-gilchrist-agrees-join-mavericks
That’s not true. We’ve been interested in him for a long time. We might have taken a pass right now, but his name has been on our radar for years.
The capeala trade was just a small ball power move before MDA finally retires. Utah beat Houston and Dallas on back to back games! Damm Dallas red hot!
MCW and Corey Brewer say hi. It’s been reported we’ve had interest in MKG for years. It’s a moot point now, though.
Carlisle is a tough coach who often fights with his players and isn't shy to critisize them. I worry about MKG with his super fragile ego and zero confidence. Hopefully he will do well and he can save his carreer in this new environment.
Carlisle is a great coach, he may be the best coach in the the league. Yeah he is very vocal, verbal and physical with his players. He has more than once told a player he would kick their ass after a game or practice. So in that sense, MKG has to be able to take Carlisle telling him he sucks at some things. On the other hand, MKG does well with structure and Carlisle is really good at that.
I don't know. I read from the Charlotte insiders that MKG wanted to quit basketball and had to be coaxed back and his confidence has plummeted. I don't believe that Carlisle as a coach is the ideal choice at this point for him, in my opinion. I think there would be better environments for him to regain his passion and will than under a tough ass coach. Anyway all the best for him, as long as he doesn't meet the Rockets in the POs.
I would love Dallas to use MKG in same way Dwight Powell was. So as a screener and roll guy for Luka.He doesn't have same height as Powell, but with KP manning the middle on defense, he doesn't have to. Luka/Tim Hardaway Jr./Dorian Finney-Smith-MKG-KP should be a good lineup. Offensively, you have three good shooters, a mediocre-decent one (Luka) and a roll guy (MKG) who is better at defense than Powell.
Just to clarify, I do not know if the MKG experiment will work. I do know that I want MKG to guard Harden in the playoffs though.
the shooting is bad, but kyle lowry shot under 26% 3 of the 4 seasons prior to joining the rockets and I was shocked we got such a bad 3 point shooter. I think mkg will shoot better with a better team too
