I don’t think people really give 2 sh$ts about the SOTU. I know I’ll be watching the Rockets and playing with trade machine. I assume most people have even less interest in the SOTU than even I do.
I'm sorry, what exactly would she do that would not end up on Fox News heavy play rotation with OMG! This will stoke more Trump votes! Even if she attended and applauded the whole time, that would be big news and show that she'd "given up on the Democratic party!" If she attended and had a natural reaction of any fact-loving human being, which would be constant facepalms and eye rolls as he lies his way through a self-aggrandizing speech, wouldn't that "win Trump some more votes"? If you believe that can happen based on her behavior, yes, yes it would.
It’s almost like Jeremy Lin was reincarnated into Donald Trump, and everyone around here has turned into tinman clones
If all you hope for from the election of the next President is to be on the internet while others are , then you aren't really getting the most out of the election.
more on the Gallup polling released this week: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/02/why-trump-will-be-re-elected-in-one-data-point.php Posted on February 6, 2020 by John Hinderaker Why Trump Will Be Re-Elected, In One Data Point Gallup has some fascinating poll data on Americans’ views of their own financial well-being. The headline sums it up: “Record-High Optimism on Personal Finances in U.S.” Gallup finds that 59% say they are better off than they were a year ago, as opposed to only 20% who say they are worse off. Those are great numbers–interestingly, we are so divided that political affiliation makes a big difference even on a simple question about one’s own finances–but that isn’t the data point I mean. The most striking finding is this one: 74% say they expect to be better off a year from now than they are today, the highest such finding Gallup has ever recorded: Sure, a lot can change between now and November. But with 74% of Americans looking forward to being more prosperous a year from now, it is hard to imagine a majority thinking that a radical change in the direction of socialism is a good idea. A huge majority of Americans, whatever they may think of Donald Trump, appear to be invested in the direction the country is moving.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." If we are to just accept creeping and overt authoritarianism because our stock portfolio seems good and the President is telling us he's keeping the bad guys out with a wall, yes there are more important things. Anyway the argument that we are at all time peace, prosperity and security isn't quite what Trump makes it out to be. We still have thousands of troops deployed in conflict zones and for all of Trump's talk and photo ops he isn't making any major moves to bring those troops home. I'm not going to deny that the economy is doing good but I will point out it was doing very good during the last three years of the previous President. Regarding security Trump's record is mixed at best. I will give him credit that he generally isn't a warmonger but his lack of strategy isn't reassuring. Consider his decision to abandon the Syrian Kurds have allowed DAESH to reconstitute. Meanwhile his travel ban doesn't include the one country where a citizen of that country did commit a terrorist act on US soil on Trump's watch. Coincidentally a country that, in Trump's own words, buys a lot of his toys.
