So since blaming this on a conspiracy by Trump or the Russians does not pass the "red face" test, even for the Democrats, is this the story they are going to try to use to shift responsibility away from themselves for this completely unnecessary debacle? A conspiracy theory about 4chan users clogging the phone lines? Is that going to be their story here?



Are leftists just completely unwilling or incapable of taking responsibility for their attitudes and their actions? If they try to shift responsibility for this blatant failure, then that will be a very fair and appropriate question to ask.

Again, compiling and calculating the results from these caucuses and presenting these results to the public is not that complicated. It is not nearly as hard as the Democrats in Iowa appear to have made it. Complexity is the enemy here and they really could have done this quite effectively with a few people equipped with nothing more than Big Chief tablets and #2 pencils. For decades, they performed these processes quite sufficiently with systems that really were not very much more sophisticated than this.

It does not help the Democrats to try to shift responsibility for this historic failure. If they will just own it, then they will be able to quickly fix it. This does not have to he as hard as they are making it.

it's been 3 days of bullshit, right when Bernie is about to win, DNC comes in from the top rope, lol. This is just going to make people give more money to Bernie.

Just throw this one out. Iowa doesn't matter anymore.

 

If by some sort of "surprise" discovery, Bernie Sanders is disenfranchised as a result of this 'recanvassing,' that will be seen by many people as just more naked corruption by the DNC. And that will included a large number of Democrat left supporters and voters.

I do not see what any of this has to do with the Republicans.

 

If the Democrats fought against republicans as hard as they do to stop Bernie Sanders from the nomination, I bet there would be no need to have a Bernie Sanders.

 

1. Yes, of course people would complain if they had to wait 2-3 days, the results should have been tabulated on day one. But after screwing up the initial result release, they should've just taken their time and gotten it right. But instead, they caved into the prospect of "more craziness" as you put it and released partial results. This was always going to be a lose-lose situation, but you choose the path that doesn't arbitrarily ignore 38% of the vote.

2. The whole point of Iowa is to use the free unpaid media to make a triumphant victory speech that builds momentum and fundraising for your campaign. Every campaign held off on exploiting this in the wake of confusion EXCEPT Buttigieg. Then, one day later, the IDP releases a percentage of results that have Buttigieg winning the SDEs, despite the fact that Sanders' partial internal numbers had him in good position to maybe win both the popular vote and the SDEs. Buttigieg was basically able to act like he won for a couple days after those results came out.

3. Lastly, this is about respecting every caucus-goer who participated in this ridiculous, long process. Especially lots of first-time caucus-goers that disproportionately went for Sanders. The whole reason Sanders was able to close the gap last night is because satellite caucus results came in that overwhelmingly voted for him. These people were meat-packers, latinos, muslims, minorities etc. If I am a first time caucus goer from these places, I am not feeling too great about regularly participating in our democracy. (And tbh they're probably right, Iowa and other caucus states should just have a vote)

So yes, you are right in saying that this is already a pretty big black eye for the DNC and IDP. But if Sanders were to end up winning the SDEs than even the mainstream media would have to recognize the stupidity of their initial decision after the result that they had been going with for 2 days has essentially been flipped on its head. They would also have to contend with the fact that Sanders and all his volunteers/cacaus-goers were essentially robbed of the opportunity to claim victory in front of the national audience. You can't undo that.

 

Lol sure. Respond when you're done language policing and making false equivalencies.

Having disgust for a guy that blatantly embraced political opportunism without seemingly any conscience is the right response. Some of us may not always put that out in the most eloquent terms, but it should not invalidate the initial criticism.

 

Let say Sanders does end up winning the delegate by a slim margin and they waited for 100% to come in before releasing the result...

Why did they wait that long? They should have released what they have, even incomplete so we know that it's a very tight race. Instead, by not releasing anything, Pete gets to claim he was the outright winner for 2-3 days without data to potentially push that back.

Either way, someone will find legitimate reasons for being mad at the ad-hoc process.
