Well said. Dismantling the American military industrial complex, as much as so many of us would like to see it done quickly and easily, will be extremely difficult, complex and will take years and years.

I can't tell if that's better or worse. That means you intentionally post misleading garbage in some kind of weird effort to convince people that Bernie is doing better than he actually is. That makes you a fraud instead of incompetent.

You can't just spend and spend and spend and spend and never put a stop to the bleeding. I get that we are the richest country in the world, but we don't have an open checkbook. I don't agree with Trump's tax cuts, I don't agree with his stupid wall (even though he is funding most of it by diverting funds from elsewhere), etc etc.

Bernie's plans are great, but I'd like to live in a country that will have it's spending under control at some point. Obama did a good job of reducing the deficit over his 2 terms and limiting what was added to the debt. Trump is ballooning it once again.

What @Nook is saying makes a ton of sense. You cut military spending (which isn't going to happen anyways) and you still can't fund all of Bernie's programs.

Dismantling the military industrial complex also ends our global imperialism. Ending our global imperialism reduces us from the super power to just another 1st world nation. Our glutton of debt can not afford the USD to wither away.

Bad messenger but she has a point.

Bernie has all these YUGE bold ideas but he has no track record of being able to work with people to get things done.

Claire McCaskill (sp?) this morning said that Bernie was not a bad dude by any stretch, but that he hates compromise, didn't have friends in the Senate by his choice and that he regularly lectured other Senators and considered himself morally superior to everyone. Basically that any issue that came up he wasn't going to compromise with anyone, would give them a lecture and they had to move on.

I wish she wouldn't have done this, but I can’t say that I’m surprised since she clearly doesn’t care what anyone thinks anymore.

And any speculation of her potentially running again can officially be put to bed after these comments. There’s no coming back from this.

I really wish the Clintons would shut up and go away. They had their time in the sun. I really don’t like them trying to have an influence in this election. They of course are free to say whatever they like. But, I think they should follow the lead of the Obamas and let the American people decide who the nominee should be.

I feel all the Dems at this point should be focusing on beating Trump. Clinton’s personal opinions about Bernie could hurt the Dems against Trump if Bernie gets the nomination. If I remember correctly Bernie did support Clinton against Trump. Bernie did speak up and say that people were sick of hearing about Clinton’s damn emails.

Billions vs trillions as someone said.

That was a bipartisan effort, you won’t be finding much bipartisan support for Bernie’s agenda.

Can someone explain to me why the total outlay for a national health care system in the US would actually go up? I have a friend who tells me he pays $1900 a month out of pocket for a healthcare plan for his family (he's a business owner). That's insane. If he earns 100k per year, that's about 25% tax rate JUST for healthcare. Of course he doesn't call it a "tax". But that's just semantics to me. If he were told that his taxes were to go up 100% he'd lose his mind, but as it's framed, he doesn't complain about his healthcare "expense." I guess as long as you don't call it taxes, paying out the butt for healthcare is fine?

On average, wealthy, developed countries (who are all on national systems) spend about 50% of what the US spends per capita on healthcare. If the US can achieve that on a national system (and that's a big if), then total spending on healthcare should go down, yes? So, using my friend as an example, if the US were on a national system, and his taxes were to go up by $1000 a month to pay for healthcare, yet he no longer pays the $1900 a month, is he not in the black on healthcare expenditure?

Not sure why healthcare is not seen as a basic service like clean water and the road system. It's a good use of tax dollars.

Rent control on the other hand, like $ 15minimum wage, is to me, like giving someone with a brain tumor aspirin because they're complaining of a headache. The root of the cost of living problem is a monetary policy that is inflaming the wealth gap in this country. The 16 trillion of printed money since the GFC has not reached the masses. Instead, it has remained within the finance sector and the wealthiest, who have plowed it into assets like stocks and real estate. This in turn has raised the cost of housing (and thus cost of living) significantly, which causes people like Sanders to call for things like $15 hour minimum wage and rent control. Unfortunately, these kinds of policies end up hurting small-business owners, who have by and large NOT benefitted from the massive monetary expansion. So in effect, they end up bearing the burden. Not a good solution in my opinion.

The student loan forgiveness might actually work out in the end if done the right way. It would be added to the national debt, but there is the potential for it to be a net positive: The university graduate demographic would probably spur a lot of development for things like real estate and business (buying houses, starting businesses) if they are not saddled with massive debt payments. Morally, it's up for debate. But hell, we spent 5-7 trillion on Iraq and Afghanistan, and if we can throw away money like that, then 1.5 trillion to free up an economically productive class doesn't look like such a bad deal.

As far as paying for other services, if the Fed were used to set up what was effectively a massive loan to bail out the banks, why couldn't the country set up a national bank to do the same for the masses? Profits from this bank, instead of going to pay for private bank CEO salaries that are 500x that of the average worker, could be used to either reduce taxes and/or help pay for services. I've always scratched my head as to why the banking/monetary system is not seen as a basic service like clean water. Seems to me this would be a win for both the free market and the socialists.

This is my biggest concern with Bernie. Principled is great to a point...but you need people on your side to get things done.

Because what’s going to happen is some folks are going to be like “why am I subsidizing those folks”.

And they are right, tons of obesity and folks that couldn’t be bothered to take care of themselves would be subsidized.

Clinton has an ax to grind with Sanders over how he handled the 2016 election so what she says should be taken with that in mind.

Having said that, she is right that Sanders did not get much done. He proposed over 300 bills the last I looked and he managed to pass exactly 3 of them, and they had to do with naming two post offices and a third increasing veteran funding. That was over a 25 year span of time. Clinton passed about the same number but in an 8 year span.

I don't know how well Sanders is or isn't liked by those in the house and senate.

Major, your bias is showing. For the most part it is not intentional. You cannot realize it since you uncritically accept what the moderate to liberal mainstream media says. You think since it is in the middle, and therefore be correct and unbiased. A logical fallacy.
Now Clinton and some of her fellow travelers say they will not vote for Sanders if it is him against Trump. This is such bs after years and constantly harping that the only thing important is defeating Trump, so all the speeches to bankers, compromises with big insurance, big pharma, big oil and big campaign donors etc. is necessary for the "resistance" lol

Trump despite being the biggest s**tshow in US history is gonna win reelection, I've all but accepted it at this point.

This is 2016 all over again. Biden is every bit the gag candidate Hilary was, and he won't get extra credit for being female. Bernie is loathed by the older crowd, and if he loses it will again alienate his hype young base, and they will pout instead of doing the smart thing. Either winner is gonna lose a big voting block and that along with the general way our electoral process is constructed to favor republicans it will be enough.

At this point I almost hate democratic incompetence more than I hate Trump, and I really f**king hate Trump.

As a matter of fact Clinton despite all her bellyaching did not support Obama when she lost to him as much as Bernie supported her.
Bernie made 3 joint appearances with Hillary vs the 2 joint appearance Hillary made with Obama in the runup to the General.

When it comes to solo appearances the differences is staggering.10 solo appearances for Clinton to support Obama. Sanders made 33 solo appearances to support Hillary. Most of Sanders appearances were in the Midwest battleground states where he beat Hillary and where she was unpopular do her championing NAFTA and the Treaty to allow China access to US markets.

    Who cares?

I don't think anyone believes Clinton is some sort of moral authority.

Clinton said what she said. Many of her supporters have moved onto other candidates.

The only relevance it has is it her comments about Sanders ring true to voters, then it could lead to something.
