Can we just take that contract on and pay the luxury tax on it? Is that possible?

One very unheralded name on that list is CJ Miles.

He would be a perfect compliment to Harden and Westbrook on the wing. He would be tops on my wish list outside of all the stretch 3/4s that may become available.

Clint Capela and a 2nd Rounder for Richaun Holmes and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Holmes is 6'10", decent defender, has a 75% FG% around the basket, shoots around 83% at the free throw line this year.

Bogdanovic would be our new starting SF, making House our super 6th man.

Capela gives the Kings a legit center that can catch lobs from Fox.

So if we trade a 1st for Marcus Morris we essentially will have traded Kuhwhy and a 1st for Mook. :)

I predict the result will be a mixture of
Tilman's cost cutting and Morey's obsession with height reductions

    https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...ine-lists-targets-draft-capital-big-questions

    Houston Rockets

Off the board: James Harden ($38.2 million, PO in 2022), Eric Gordon ($14.1 million, UFA in 2024) and Chris Clemons ($563,000, RFA in 2022)

Contracts with the most value: Clint Capela ($14.9 million, UFA in 2023), PJ Tucker ($8.3 million, UFA in 2021) and Danuel House ($3.5 million, UFA in 2022)

Toughest salary to move: Russell Westbrook ($38.5 million, PO in 2022)

Free agents in July: Gerald Green ($1.6 million, veto power), Tyson Chandler ($1.6 million), Thabo Sefolosha ($1.6 million) and Austin Rivers ($2.2 million, PO in 2020, veto power)

Controllable contracts: Isaiah Hartenstein ($1.4 million, RFA in 2021), Gary Clark ($1.4 million, RFA in 2021) and Ben McLemore ($2 million, UFA in 2021)

Rest of the roster: Nene Hilario ($2.5 million, UFA in 2021)

Draft capital: Houston can trade a first-rounder only for 2020, and the team owns its second-rounders in 2021 and 2023.

Under discussion in the front office: Identifying the value of the 2020 first-round pick along with salary-cap fillers. Can the roster be improved without moving Tucker or Capela?

Finances: The Rockets are $1.2 million above the luxury tax and project to be over the threshold in 2020-21. Although they are financially restricted, they do have multiple trade exceptions available.

FWIW There are concerns that the deadline may not have as many deals as some had hoped because a lot of teams that should be sellers think they still have a shot at the the 8 seed in the West. So lets hope that someone from that soup of bad teams emerges and gets a strangle hold on the 8 seed.

isn’t the bigger problem what the article above mentions? They have very little assets that are trade able with value.

It depends on what your expectations are.

The Rockets have a #1 pick, trade exceptions and a couple of #2 picks to deal. So the Rockets will likely target imperfect wings or players that are miscast on their current teams. The hope is that they find someone like Luc Mbah. Granted it isn't exactly the same...... but consider that the Rockets were very close to getting JaMychal Green and Garrett Temple at the deadline last year. While neither of them are stars, they would have been in the rotation and would have made a difference in the playoffs.

The Rockets also can cobble together some salaries if necessary.

FWIW the oddest thing I have heard is that the Rockets are interested in a buy low center like Giles in Sacramento.
