Well, the Astros have lost two players in the early going as RHP Brandon Bailey went 2nd to the Orioles and RHP Yohan Ramirez was selected by the Mariners with the 5th pick. Bailey was acquired from Oakland in the Ramon Laureano deal a couple of years ago. Ramirez was another one of those pitchers who signed late and shot up through the system.
*insert DJ Khalid meme* I liked Arauz, isn’t he the young flier we got in some deal? IIRC, he was progressing well. Sad to see him go
Losing Arauz hurts, but hopefully he won’t be able to stick with Boston. Ramirez and Bailey are really high upside pitchers, and both have really good chances to stick with their new teams. Bummer for Houston.
Yohan was almost at 8 BB/9 in AA last year. He's got to make a pretty big stride in that department to be viable in the majors.
Their team is bad and there's a 26 man roster next year. They could just waste that extra spot and send him down to AAA in 2020 if they really like him
There's expected to be a maximum on pitchers, and with the 3 batter rule they won't be able to pull him immediately if he just has no command. There are obviously avenues to him sticking, I just don't think it's terribly likely.
Well, that sucks, but it means the Astros are doing a good job developing talent. MLB should award a compensation draft pick at the end of the10th round at the very least.
