Why do we just have to rip up everyone but our specific favorite in the primaries? I’ll take the Dem nominee as long as it isn’t a child of Trump’s, period. Includes Bernie, includes Pete, and many others. I don’t agree with: pete is slick, ergo he is pure evil and is only about himself!!1!
I have concerns with how good a President Buttigieg would be (I am concerned he might depend a little too much on technocrats, be buddy-buddy with "insiders" and make decisions only after running them past several focus groups), but I think he is possibly the best candidate to win an election. You want to know what an unpolished politician looks like? Spoiler A little "too polished doesn't sound like such a terrible thing right about now. Pete's not my favorite, but the Dems could do much worse.
To my Dem friends here who bash anyone not for M4A and free college.... After spending the week with Trump supporters I’ll tell you this... if Warren or Bernie get elected there’s no way in hell they will peel off even 1% of Trump voters from 16. There are three candidates they seem to be seriously thinking about or at least giving lip service to in order to keep respect in their social circles and workplace... Biden, Pete, and Tulsi. I of course don’t know if even 1% of those type of voters don’t eventually come home to Trump, but it at least deserves our attention to think about a strategy to try to flip some voters without losing enthusiasm. Pete might be one of the only guys or women who has that potential even as pure as he might not be. I for one think it’s a good thing someone like Pete maneuvered to the center on enough issues to get some attention from flip potentials. We just have to see if he can sustain and grow with the base.
The reason for me personally, is that I desperately want us to elect a candidate that will improve the quality of life for the American people. Bernie, Warren would give us a real chance at that, Yang & Gabbard are wildcards with humungous question marks, but could also potentially give us a chance at that. I don't see that chance with any other candidate, which is why I'm pretty sour to Biden, Pete, Klobuchar etc. Things like M4A, free child care, $15 min wage, tuition-free college, student loan forgiveness, and substantially raising taxes on the wealthy to address inequality would all be absolutely major, major things for all the people struggling in this country. Our life expectancy has been in decline for 3 consecutive years, a minority of the super-wealthy continue to engulf alarming amounts of the countries wealth as our middle-class crumbles, the average wages haven't budged since the 70's yet cost of living has skyrocketed, poverty rates haven't budged since the 70's yet our economy has grown exponentially since. Amongst highly developed countries, we have the highest poverty rates, despite working some of the longest hours, we have the highest murder rates, we are the only highly developed country to not have universal healthcare, we're the only country to not offer paid maternity leave for mothers, simultaneously we have the highest infant mortality rates. What is going on? Why are we lagging? What exactly got us a president like Trump in the first place? To me it's clear, people are struggling and are desperate for improvement.... and many who are doing well, just don't see that so clearly, and would be all too happy with just getting "back to normal". And I get it, it's not as easy as it seems to see people are struggling, even if you see it and acknowledge it, I don't think it really registers for many, we see all-day the incredible world-class standards of living that people have in the USA, we see the money, we see the new tech, we see the luxury, but hiding in plain sight is massive wealth inequality that leaves tens of millions living in an entirely different world within our own country. I don't think Pete, Biden, Amy are pure evil, but they are campaigning on getting "back to normal", in a country that NEEDS to move forward in a major way for tens of millions of Americans. And on top of all that, we just can't accept moderation for climate change solutions.
The President should be a moderate. I really dislike this idea that the President is principally the leader of a particular political party. Presidents need to be able to appeal to a wide range of people around the center of where the country is at politically. They need to be consensus builders. Pete Buttigieg seems to get that. I think Andrew Yang also understands that. The country doesn’t need a radical shift to the left. What’s required is a radical shift in how Washington works and how the parties deal with each other.
This is a weird statement. What does this mean? When Bernie says EVERYONE should have health care, EVERYONE should pay reasonable prices for medication, EVERYONE should have an education, EVERYONE should have a living wage, EVERYONE should pay their taxes, Money allocated to fund the regime change wars should go toward infrastructure so EVERYONE has clean water to drink, Pass the Green New Deal so EVERYONE can have a planet for their children and grandchildren, that is too far left? Instead moderates like Mayor Pete say, naw fam that's too much. Incremental change that benefits no one is the way to go. M4A, Free Education, etc is dumb in his eyes because rich people are going to benefit too. what the hell?
I actually agree with Pete on this. Why should we be paying for rich kids to go to college for free? Just silly they don't need our help. And you know what? Why do we pay for rich kids to go to high school for free? and middle school? and elementary? and why the hell do they need our firefighters? They can put their own dam fires out with all their money, and they can hire private security they don't need us to pay for their cops either. This is an excellent line of thinking, isn't it? Just like we need firefighters, cops, our water, and our main infrastructure to be public goods, we need our education to be as well. We need to add colleges to our public tuition-free school system, bachelor degrees are now equivalent to what high school degrees used to be. And let's not forget, pre-k. We need to add quality public pre-k schools to our system. (but maybe no rich kids? **** them lil rich 3 year olds?) (Pre)K-16 >>> K-12
I don’t know, is it? Those sound like admirable goals to me. Policy makers should lay out how it’s going to get done, what the predictable consequences could be, and see what the people want. And then find a set of solutions the people around the middle can agree on. That’s where I think the President needs to be coming from.
It's a trash talking point meant to undercut policies for everyone and divide Americans. If everyone is getting this stuff it is harder for congress (republicans) to take it away. There is a reason socialism like Medicare and Social Security is so popular and untouchable; EVERYONE, rich and poor gets it because we all pay into it
When you weed out doctors that means the will be greater shortages than there already is. And doctors will not be as tempted because of the debts they pile up in medical school.
Bro Just if college was free do you understand there is a budget that would be added to? Even on Obamacare people miss the point. The goal is reducing healthcare costs ultimately
Bernie has laid out his plans to make it happen and how it will be paid for. There is a reason Bernie doesn't lie that taxes will go up and the rich will pay their fair share. Media always asks how he is going to pay for all this stuff from a right wing talking point instead of reporting that he has a plan to pay for it outlined on his website already. Also the Media does not want to say any of this stuff is feasible because they are all funded by Pharmaceutical and Oil companies that will be less rich if Bernie is in office. The Koch Brothers (republican billionaires) have already funded a study that confirms Bernie's health plan would save this country billions. Top economists have already reported that expunging Medical and Student loan debt would boost the economy. Also, I'm sorry to say there will never be any middle ground or true compromise as long as Republicans are in congress; They actively do things contrary to their constituency's needs. Case in Point: Medicare expansion was voted down in Texas when Texas is one of the least uninsured states in the nation. The Government was giving away FREE MONEY and Texas republicans said no thank you because it was proposed by an Obama administration.
Doctor income isn't the problem with healthcare costs. Healthcare costs coming down boil down to us as citizens being healthier. Europeans have insurance, they also live healthier lives
Homie, Trump has exploded the budget giving money to the rich and other needless crap. That budget crap is a myth. Every Republican President has exploded the budget after crying about it when a Democrat was in office. Another trash argument they feed you. You can go back and see the budget for every republican president and see that he was never concerned about the budget at all.
What does have to do with what i posted or should i not give a damn about the budget since Trump doesn't? Trump blew the deficit up with the tax cut no doubt and Republicans are hypocrites about the budget but that doesn't mean a Democrat shouldn't be responsible
