Woj had it right again, Tillman gets his wings...on the cheap! Landry's to acquire Houlihan's Restaurants in bankruptcy Spoiler First we signed Westbrook, then Iguodala Del Frisco's, now Houlihan's? We are #blessed
I'd take a flyer on Josh Jackson, baggage included. He's a good defender and we don't really have a surplus on those. Heavily protected 2nd rounder for Jackson and put him out there for 10 minutes a night and see what he can provide.
Stalking horse bidder... not a done deal yet But if he'll stalking horse bid an actual NBA player that is useful to the team, that'd be a start!
How do you get him? He makes $7million. So we'd have to send out something like $5.5mill in salaries. Nene can't be traded for ages. Even if he could be, he makes nowhere near enough. The Grizz have 15 roster spots in use, so we'd need to find a 3rd team to take on the junk guaranteed minimums we're trying to unload... Would cost an asset each time to do it. Pretty hard to take a flyer on him without giving up something of value (unless he gets cut)
Jackson is an albatross for MEM, sent him down to G League which further decreases value. But agree that would need to wait until Nene is eligible for trade. Would sign 6'8 Lance Thomas today however. Maybe even Corey Brewer too. Especially if Clark and GGreen never going to play this season.
I'm looking at guys who could be available either through trade or buyouts because their team is tanking or under performing to the point they may as well tank. Ariza is starting to look interesting because the Kings suck. He's getting paid A LOT though. Dedmon would also make a decent back up center option if the Kings make him available but I'm weary of that because IT MIGHT INTERFERE WITH HARTY GETTING MINUTES! Marcus Morris is on a 1 year 15 million dollar deal too and the Knicks have the second worst record in the league (and apparently they're surprised by that). Wayne Ellington could also be possible on the Knicks. He doesn't fit with their roster moving forward. The Grizz seem to really like the veteran presence Jae Crowder brings but if I was them I'd look to get something for him. Obviously Iggy is still up in the air though if he gets bought out I suspect he's straight to an LA team. Gallinari could be available in OKC but I don't see how we'd match his 22 million salary. Maybe Thad Young on the Bulls? I'm sure Marvin Williams could be available; he's fallen out of the rotation in Charlotte in favor of a youth movement. But I have no idea if he can still play or not. Otherwise I sure would love for them to find the next Danuel House. Surely somebody is out there that just needs a chance. God we need another wing.
We don't need to take a flyer at this point.. The Rockets need guys that can play...perform a function, play a role. It's all about plugging in and being able to get there now. If there's some upside, okay. But, it's about now...
But who/ how?!? You have to match salaries to make pretty much any deal work. Anyone who is halfway useful as a rotation player I am assuming we would want to keep. So that leaves us with minimum salaries as 'matchers'. We can therefore bring back someone on the minimum, OR bundle a few of them. But to bundle them we need to be trading with someone who is willing to either eat their salary, or gets compensated in return. Makes it REALLY tricky... Buyout candidates are the better way forward. See what pans out and swoop.
If Iggy goes to the lakers that will be bad news for us and we have no way to get him now....I think our best bet his hoping gary clark makes the danuel house jump this year...his defense would be ideal right now, if he can only hit that three.....ariza and crowder getting bought out and choosing us is a pipe dream.
When healthy Harden, WB, House, Gordon, Rivers is as solid a guard/wing group as you’re going to find. What we need is more PF depth. Ideally a PJ Tucker type 3D PF but with more length and explosiveness. JaMychal Green would look great for instance. We basically have no tradeable assets however.
A guy like Jae Crowder can be had with some combined salaries and a draft pick. That's all we need. Aminu only makes 9 million a year.
Right. So you bundle 5 guaranteed salaries to get 1 guy. Which means Memphis needs to cut 4 guys, just to add the extra contracts to their roster (which they probably don't want because they are trash guaranteed salaries). They can't just vanish. Aggregated minimum contract guys still need to end up SOMEWHERE. If they were non-guaranteeds you can flip 'em around for someone who wants to ditch a guaranteed - but they aren't, so you need to find a 3,rd, 4th, 5th, 6th party who might actually want to take on one or two or more of these contracts, and then pay them to do so... It's not just a matter of saying they add up to match!
Crowder's 7.8 million would be a piece of cake man. If Morey can't figure that out, he needs to be fired. Memphis would cut the hell out of their scrubs to get their hands on a 1st round pick. Believe that.
Marcus Morris and Trevor Ariza are not realistic buyout options. Marvin Williams might not but could get bought out. He’s not getting many minutes, not playing well and is in his final year. But it would involve him surrendering some money (possible since he can make some of it up), him picking us, and him playing like he did two years ago because he may just be useless now.
