I think one more season would have been good but hey... he's gone and trades BOB have made ended up being good. Drafting Titus and Max... good picks. I'm not going to clown BOB for not wanting Clowney. BOB made his decision it is what it is.
Oh, look who decided to show up after all those bad takes he posted about the Texans look like crap. Still think Conley was a bad trade? Tunsil? Duke? Hyde? As for Clowney, Gareon Conley and Jacob Martin are basically what you got for him. I can live with that...since the Texans were not going to pay hm.
Clowney is an underachiever but Texans still botched the trade when they allowed their intentions to be known. The biggest negative though is the future years of reduced picks. Maybe we hit some homers with those late rounders. Maybe win a SB first so it matters less.
To date Clowney stats: 16 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 FF, 1 INT To date Merciless stats: 22 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 4 FF, 1 INT I don't argue that it feels like the Texans should have been able to get more in trade for Clowney, but let's not let one nationally televised game cloud our judgement about what Clowney has done this season. He absolutely wouldn't have been worth the money we would have paid him if we extended him.
Now imagine how good Mercilus would be doing if he was across from the most double-teamed defender in the league. I'm with you that we need to move on. They botched the trade; it is what it is. We shouldn't have this thread brought up every time Clowney has a "good" game or a "bad" game. No matter how bad he is, this defense would be better, not worse with him. No matter how good he is, he's not here.
"Here's Whitney's stats. Here's Clowney stats. They free'd up Mercilus!" They don't get brownie points because they couldn't find a way to make Watt, Whitney & Clowney work together and 1/3rd or 2/3rd of them had to be out for the others to dominate. How about Bark Mingo & Jacob Martin's stats? 2 combined tackles.
Nobody, including myself, is arguing that it was good we got rid of Clowney because it freed up Mercilus. I posted the stats to show that Clowney, despite his game last night that everyone was going ga-ga over, has not been all that great this season. In fact, hasn't even been as good as Mercilus. I don't regret the Texans getting rid of Clowney. I do regret they couldn't get more for him but honestly none of us will ever know for sure what is the max return they really could have pulled in.
And we they let him walk because they don't think he is worth the money...the reaction: "atleast we go a 3rd round pick coming next draft".
