Watt was one of the greatest defensive players of all time during his prime stretch. He's been a model of what you want on and off the field. But his explosion is gone and he's extremely injury prone. At this point a smart organization would cut him this offseason, or at the very least see if we can't get him to restructure. He's still a really good defensive player, just not impact.
He may be 80% of what he was but he was hitting the QB at rates when he was DPOY and the best defensive player on this team. One of the best players of this generation and arguably one of the best if not the best defenders of all time. Like you said, great on the field and off. I think he’s earned the right to try to come back personally. Injuries don’t mean you’re washed up if he’s still performing when healthy, and he is.
Absolutely. First ballot HoF when it's all said and done. This injury is just unfortunate. Here come the "JJ is injury prone" posters. Not a lot you can do to protect from a torn pec.
Will Fuller? Texans are not trading Fuller. I guess you haven't notice the offense without Fuller out there?
In today's world of sports there are very few players I would consider as heroes. JJ Watt's off the field activities when Houston was devastated by Harvey I believe qualifies him for that title. His on the field exploits are really legendary and although injuries have punctuated his career, he's still managed to do things that qualify as "rare" in the game we all love. I believe JJ will be back and back with a vengeance next year. Maybe the Pats would let go of a legend, hell a local hero, but I hope we never do.
I’m sure that Watt this summer will get to think about how the Texans wasted his brilliance and prime like they did Johnson and Foster and others in the past.
