When has the Rockets ever went over the Tax? and why would Tilman cough up 45 million to get old ass IGGY here? that's with the tax plus his salary..
If you truly believe Yoan Moncada would've helped the Astros win at the time, then I think the difference in opinion here is just an understanding of how baseball works
Why do we worry about a billionaire's finances? Who cares if he pays 45 million for a player, if it helps us win? It's not our money. It's his job to put the best team out there.
If you're some rich season ticket holder and if at any point in the season you're attendance rate drops below 33%, your ticket should be cancelled, no refund.
In defense of Les, it shouldn't be expected to deliberately blow out the luxury tax unless the team is a legitimate contender. It's foolish to do it to try and spend your way from 45 wins to 50, for example. There were no Rockets teams in Les' last 15 years that had a serious chance to win the title except maybe '08 and '09, and both those seasons were destroyed by Yao/McGrady injuries so in retrospect there wasn't much that big spending could have done. So yeah, you can look at him paying tax one time in a 13 year stretch and shake your head, but that 13 year stretch included very few times that would have been logical to spend big.
doesn't really matter relative to what the op was and that was sales demand. the lower bowl can be empty bc a ton of people are in the concession area, which is very much true for the club sections on either side.
