This is very simplistic analysis. The correlation between the most valuable and the most competitive teams isn't exactly 1:1: 1. Knicks ($4 billion) 2. Lakers ($3.7 billion) 3. Warriors ($3.5 billion) 4. Bulls ($2.9 billion) 5. Celtics ($2.8 billion) 6. Nets ($2.3 billion) 7. Rockets ($2.2 billion) 8. Clippers ($2.15 billion) 9. Mavericks ($1.9 billion) 10. Heat ($1.7 billion) Further, if China is now taking its fight to the entire NBA - which it is, that makes it even less likely to have an impact. Let's face it, Tillman is a cheapo before this and will use any excuse to cut costs in any way that he can. That's who he is. Rooting for Les Alexander's investment vehicles or Tillman's Steakhouse chain margins are not why any of us are into this and we shouldn't be conditioned to think that way.
Given that most of the NBA get almost no money from China beyond revenue sharing nor can they attract big name free agents anyway, their owners wouldn't give a damn. The Rockets have had it real good these past years with Dwight, CP3, westbrook all wanting to come. Theres no one in Minnesota or Milwaukee shedding tears if Rockets get blackballed by China.
Here’s the real situation they made it a big deal, not the NBA they blew it up to mass proportions how many people follow Morey on twitter ? He’s not Justin Bieber . His tweet about Hong Kong was made bigger by the Chinese than the Popeyes fried chicken tweet
the thing is future NBA stars may think twice before choosing to play for the Rockets, depends on what current situation would end like. Also, i'm not sure if the league would want the Rockets to win the NBA championship in near term. They always got scott foster and tony bros ready to roll. Money does do a lot of talking in today's business world. i hope time could heal all these and we get back to normal eventually.
I don't care. Rockets are primed to be more entertaining than recent years and contend for the championship. Just hurting themselves. Typical Chinese Government tactics of suppressing their people of good stuff. Bouyah
OP short sighted as always. You should care. Your beloved owner paid 2.2B. Part of the price included Harden and China. If his dividends in China are not paying off, he will most certainty make up for it else where. If you thought Tilman not paying the luxury tax was bad, just wait for what is in store.
I find the entire situation fascinating (and pathetic); but ultimately I do not care if the government of China has their feelings hurt or if they ban NBA games. GO ROCKETS!!!
If you are ultimately just trying to look at the basketball side of this (which I am definitely not), Nate Silver just had a very tongue in cheek tweet effectively saying that this could have been intentional by Morey because losing the China market will lower BRI and lower the salary cap. This would help the Rockets because we are pretty cap constrained for awhile (though Nate's take doesn't factor in whether Tilman will pay the LT in that scenario).
Does this mean we can finally ditch the current Chinese logo/uniforms and go back to the championship era ones from the early 90's?
If future players don't want to play for an elite team because of this China thing then get the **** out and play for the Knicks. I don't care. I want players with winner mindsets.
Your delusion is showing. Morey puts together perennial contenders. When he's done here, he'll be snapped up by another team in an instant.
The rich don't share anyway Space, if he got more money he would just put it in his own pocket, it will have zero effect on how he runs the Rockets. Trickle down is a failed and proven false narrative. DD
