With Kima her orientation had really little to do with her overall character. I was more interested in what Kima would do because of Kima's personality and how she interacted with the other guys and dealers. I had no interest in her because she was gay. Same with Omar - I loved his character because he was just a badass and at least in Omar's case his orientation help further the plot and his character when they took out his boy. My only issue of late is there are a few characters out there that shows feel should be interesting characters because they are gay. I don't really care about that if anything it leads to lazy writing. The Wire is a great example of a show having dynamic and interesting gay characters because their sexual orientation isn't their defining character trait. If you're going to have a character be gay, fine, but dont make it their defining character trait because then I find it hard to believe they are going to add anything of value to the show.
I've skipped a few pages of this weird ass thread, but will catch up. Legit question, are all the shows in question made by Netflix (originals) or are they just shows made by other studios and picked up by Netflix? Also, I'm a subscriber who only randomly watches docs/movies from there because when I browse the offerings without a plan, I end up falling down the rabbit hole, adding shows to the watch list and never watching them. From my perspective, I'd argue that Netflix has a ton of sci-fi originals and it skews that way, or perhaps that's just my browsing habits.
Wow, can't believe I just now clicked this thread, LOL..... Fatty's here! He's queer! GET USED TO IT!!!
Is it wrong to want some variety when you watch netflix and other cinema and not feel like you're watching a very specific issue that affects a small portion of the population multiple times to where it becomes recognizable as a trend and unoriginal? Maybe something relatable is better instead? Isn't that why minorities always complain about representation? No one here I have seen has a problem with the coming out part or the gay part, just because they are coming out or gay, I am assuming.
LMAO. Reminds me of this classic onion article from 98. https://www.theonion.com/why-do-all-these-homosexuals-keep-sucking-my-****-1819583529
