Yes and...I hate the same WHINEY BS. I get it, O'Brien sucks.....The Organization sucks...Boo Hoo. Cry me a ****ing river. Find another team. Until Cal McNair decides he is fed up, all your whining is just noise. Criticism....Fine. But it is the same whiney BS over and over. It gets old.
Complains about same whiney Bs, then how about our fking HC coach competently every game. Every single game he fks up, it's not the same sht of us complaining, it us pointing out new fk ups. It gets old of watching the HC fk up the clock, and bumble potential opportunity. It gets old going into playoffs just to get smashed and outcoach.
Mercilus is on pace for a much better season because of Clowney's departure. He's a better football player than Clowney and we lost something when he couldn't play full time at his natural position. Edit: just saw that he won AFC defensive player of the week
I think that’s mainly because Clowney was playing out of position as well. He should’ve had his hand in the dirt every play.
It seems what we're seeing is the Texans d-line play might still be ok. And that's ok. But still doesn't alleviate the fact that the returns on Clowney were way too small... especially since it didn't address other glaring areas of need - secondary and oline. I never LOVED Clowney. Probably because he didn't really live up to that #1 pick standard you'd want. A mid teens pick and I'd probably have felt differently. But that doesn't mean I'd have traded him for that package in return.
True. Clowney is a 4-3 DE, not a 3-4 OLB. Mercilus is a WOLB, not a SOLB. He needs to be rushing most of the time instead of dropping into coverage. Playing Clowney out of position forced us to play Mercilus out of position too.
Originally hated the trade, but if chemistry continues to improve, I say good move Texans front office.
1. The team's chemistry was just fine when they went 11-5 last season 2. It was obvious the team didn't want to pay him, regardless of the performance(s), a 3rd round pick is still not enough. Frank Clark just got his first sack today and he cost a 1st round pick 3. They've played some bad offensive lines. Jags were banged up, Chargers are jut bad. Thank God for Dan Feeney 4. Romeo didn't know what to do when JJ, Whitney, and Clowney were healthy. One of those three always suffered. It was usually Mercilus. 5. This defense is not better without Clowney. I don't think you'll be able to convince anyone of that.
If u want to b truly thorough on seeing if this sht trade was actually "a genius move on BoB" or a "shtty move by petty Bob". Compare the players/assets he was traded for and not Mercilus Jadeveon Clowney thru 3 games with the Seahawks 5 tackles 2 PDs 1 sack 1 TFL 1 QB hit Barkevious Mingo thru 3 games with the Texans = all zero cause he didn't even play in any. 0 tackles 0 PDs 0 sack 0 TFL 0 QB hit Jake Martin thru 3 games with the Texans 1 assist Tackle 2021 3rd round pick = pending Yea only 3 games in but does this look like we r real winners with this sht trade? Yea i dont think so. Of course u can compare Clowney to Mercilus, who replaced him and say yea trading him was the right call. But what we got for him can no way b claimed a victory and positive yield, hence a sht trade
The cap room to sign Watson, Mercilus and a FA cornerback or 2 next season is the real winner of this trade.
You cant argue with some people about this because they dont understand salary caps and dont have a big picture understanding. First of all Clowney didn't want to sign the tag. His claim is he should be tagged as a defensive end. You know who was tagged as a linebacker? Vaughn Miller and he signed his tag. Is Clowney better than Miller? This point has been made but cant be stressed enough. Mercilus Watt and Clowney didn't play well enough last season to mask the holes in the secondary. They couldn't dump more money into pass rush without knowing they were going to get results. They are better off improving other parts of the team with that money
