Summary: Texans give away Clowney for nothing. Let's be clear, I did not want the Texans to resign him, but to give him away was not the plan I had in mind.
So we don’t make any OL needle-moving changes in offseason, we get embarrassed with the GM fiasco, and then we trade a 26 y/o #1 pick that was a dominant force on our defense? What the actual f*ck. I’m out, not that it matters, but I’m just out. See you later butt chin, can’t wait for you to get the hell out of town.
You have to wonder what type of message this conveys to the players. So far - everyone has bitten their tongue But if you are watt, Hopkins or Watson - this off-season culminating in this trade that merely expedites the net minimum return on a value asset that walks....... Just wouldn’t make me feel the team was interested in winning anytime soon And if they do compound this by mortgaging next years draft to acquire Tunsil- I’m picking a new team. Screw allegiance to this crap. Seattle seems like a good team to follow.
We know the first is true, and unfortunately it looks like the 2nd is too. You know Cal signed off on this.
I can't even begin to articulate how disturbed and upset I am about this trade. O'Brien is a hot head with impulse control problems and the Texans need some adults in front office who can say no to him. This is nowhere near adequate value for Clowney, particularly when you get nothing in return that helps you this year. If you can't get anything that helps your team immediately, let Clowney sit out if he wants. You hold his franchise rights until he either plays for you or you get adequate value for him. There is absolutely no reason for a fire sale that nets you next to nothing in return at this time.
All they had to do was let Clowney play the season. He was willing to play till they started dangling him in trade talks before he signed his tender. They probably would have gotten more at the trade deadline or at the end of the season.
