He doesn't get it. He prefers to remain oblivious to the truth and believes everything that comes from the state controlled media of China. It's pretty weird, actually. It's been explained to him multiple times what the difference is between Hong Kong and the Mainland. It would be one thing if he simply was upset about the protests. What he believes is far more than that. In my opinion, he's a perfect example of the atmosphere the Xi government is trying to foment. Sadly, they are doing a "good" job of fomenting, both in China, among some Chinese expatriates, and in Hong Kong. This unrest in Hong Kong could have ended long ago if the government in Hong Kong, largely under the direction of the Xi regime, in my opinion, had simply withdrawn the extradition bill and declared that the attempt at passing something worded in such a way as to allow China to bring any Hong Kong citizen to the Mainland for trial, for any reason, was a mistake. They haven't done anything close to that.
Yes it does push the ball down and will still have to deal with it in 2047. We’re dealing with a crisis point and if this can reduce tensions and buy time for other solutions. The treaty and Basic Laws are on the books now and if the rule of law has any value should be followed. Everyone knew that things were eventually going to have to be worked out the 50 year window was meant for that purpose so the best thing for HK, PRC and the rest of the world should be to follow that now while working on what happens in 2047.
If people are blocking JFK and preventing passengers from their flights, how will NY police handle this?
Ignore the second part? how so? Do not HK have their own system that is different and apart from China right now? no? If the second part is ignored, extradition should not even be in the discussion. 'One country' should be the only focus because 'two systems' will eventually merge to one in less than 30 years. HK need to move closer to China in their heart. If HK have other plans than that, the future will not look good.
http://shanghaiist.com/2019/08/14/h...p-hostage-block-paramedics-from-reaching-him/ Things are definitely escalating day by day. I wonder how much of it is desperation because a significant amount of the protesters will have to go back to university in the next week or two, which should significantly shrink the size of the protests. Hate on the CCP and Xi all you want but in this situation, they are not responsible for the poor policy planning by the local HK govt, which has led to the frustrated youth. This isn't to say there won't be issues with integration as we get closer to 2047 but for now, the CCP and Xi is just a straw man for these current protests. In the big picture, the CCP hasn't cracked down on the HK protests because 1.) HK is a small part of China's GDP and isn't a top priority, 2.) Xi is much more occupied with the trade war, and 3.) HK has it's own local govt that can manage its own problems. 4.) Being international and high profile also means handling the situation with extra caution. HK is also a huge international money laundering hub (for mainland money too) so fully taking over HK and making it another Chinese city would disrupt that benefit.
i'd agree w you if there was free election in HK as called for by the Basic Law. But there is no free election in HK Carrie Lam is CCP's hand-picked puppet. she is the surrogate of the CCP and Xi. from where i stand, it is because HK, w social media and the internet, is the most visible part of China, china can't afford the adverse publicity let's use another set of statistics, HK's Hang Seng exchange accounts for over 90% of the IPOs for mainland's companies add to it the cross-border trading of dim sum bonds / stock / currencies it is peanuts as compared to Malaysia and Singapore, 2 of the favorite $ laundering hub for mainlanders
HK people doesn’t have a choice. Outside of those with resources they can’t just abandon the country and run away to some other places. The ticking bomb might be exactly what is sustaining this protest. They see that effectively there isn’t a true independent two systems one country, and they do not want China to start eroding their rights, and are taking a stand and is fighting now before it’s way too late. They want to get to a true two systems, with full independent democracy first then deal with 2047. Let’s also not completely rule out the possibility that China would actually reform toward HK system, especially if HK is extremely successful or continue to be pivotal to China economic and social status gain. Consider China in 1970 vs today...
your intellectual dishonesty manifests itself. here are more telling statistics HK has a population of ~ 8 million, 0.6% of China's population. on a per capita basis, HK's GDP is ~ 5 times that of China HK's total area is ~1,104 sq km, ~0.01% of China's total area, on a per sq km basis, HK's GDP is ~ 3,000 times that of China i'll stack up HK's economic efficiency against any tier-one city or SEZ in China
Seriously, did I say anything about GDP per capita???? Your accusation is so ****ing uncalled for. Nobody cares about GDP per capita. GDP vs area??? lol what a stat! You are mentally ill. please shut up.
by Wednesday, HK Intl Airport obtains injunction against protesters to prevent them from returning to disrupt operations. flights in and out of HK have resumed
Compare GDP per captia of a modern international city to a country with 500 million farmers? Compare GDP per area of a compact industrial city to a country with 70% mountain area? That's not truth. That's stretching your data accordingly to your agenda.
Protesters in Hong Kong on Wednesday apologized to travelers who missed their flights after thousands of demonstrators stormed the city's international airport and clashed with police. Airlines were trying to clear a backlog of more than 200 flights as normal services resumed. He is a bigger man than the occupant in the WH
