If you need a LT like the Texans do, then if an all pro LT becomes available you do the deal even if it costs a first to help protect Watson. Can't lose your franchise QB because you're holding on to draft picks.
A very stupid reason to not add an all pro player at a position of great need. Meanwhile Watson will take another beating next year.
No. First round picks are GOLD in the NFL, especially for team like the Texans which has hit in so many #1s. A tackle that is 31 is a depreciating assist. He may be great, but he can fall off a cliff quickly. #2 and 3/4 in the following draft is quality compensation for a Tackle like Williams.
All pro LT's are certainly worth a first rd pick. He's only 31, he should have 4 more really good yrs. Look at DB. Also do you know that the Oilers traded for a mainstay LT in Leon Gray and went to two AFCG's. I wouldn't mind a repeat of that.
"Good, good. Excited. His leadership, taking care of his body, how he's treating those young guys & bringing them along too. It's been exciting to see." - OL guru Mike Devlin on Matt Kalil @Nimo Spoiler
It works out then because Watson is going to have another year of getting murdered and we'll need those picks to draft another QB.
