I'm to the point that we should be all in on the bullpen. What would it take to get Brad Hand? Unless a ToR starter falls in our laps I think we are better served to get another shut down reliever.
I don’t think the Indians will sell. But there are a lot of other good relievers available. Givens, LeClerc, Greene, Diaz, Yates, and Iglesias are all pretty elite relievers on teams with no realistic shot at the playoffs.
I could see MIN making a big splash. Nothing to support that...just a gut feel. I could see NYM’s inept FO opting to deal Thor to MIN over HOU/NYY if their concerns stated earlier in the thread are actually a thing. MIN is an interesting team. Good balanced offense. Could use some more pitching/bullpen depth (as could everyone), but a Berrios-Thor 1-2 punch would be legit.
José Urquidy might be of interest to them. Mets want a #4 starter they can use now and his stock has increased last two games
Your guys thoughts on Tanner Roark from the Reds for an under the radar SP? Free agent after this season and posting solid numbers. Amount to give up may not be as much as the other popular names.
A lot of these guys are theoretical improvements, but are they really this season? LeClerk: 4.02 / 1.17 (ERA/WHIP) Diaz: 4.81 / 1.45 Iglesias: 4.60 / 1.40 Givens: 4.28 / 1.18 Meanwhile... Osuna: 2.68 / 0.92 Pressly: 2.03 / 0.86 Harris: 1.82 / 1.16 Devenski: 4.50 / 1.34 James: 4.73 / 1.31 Rondon: 4.54 / 1.35 Are these guys really upgrades you pay anything for? Certainly some like Yates and Greene have been great, but a lot of the others would just be rotating current mediocre guys for new mediocre (and in some cases, more expensive) names for people to complain about.
I don't trust Rondon or Harris. Pressly and Osuna (not too much rope) are the only ones that I trust.
Sure - but are you going to trust new relievers that have much worse actual on-field results than Harris? I'm arguing the only benefit to acquiring those guys is that they've failed for other teams instead of the Astros, so our fans haven't learned to hate them yet. But their actual performance is much worse and don't necessarily make the team any better.
Seems likely that these are deliberately leaked reports. Mets should keep their asking price high, field offers, make ur seem like they’re waiting for a team to meet their demands then last second pick the offer they think is best. Astros are doing their part by making it known they are pushing for deals with a lower asking price because the only variable that could motivate the Mets to expedite a deal is if there is a notion that teams that covet Syndergaard are filling their needs and using prospects in those deals that the Mets covet. I’m not putting too much truth value in these tweets and reports.
Best thing that could happen to Houston is for the Yankees to acquire a guy the Astros aren’t that interested in (maybe Boyd or Stroman). I don’t think that many teams are all that serious about trading top prospects for starting pitching. Once the Yankees make a move prices might fall and action pick up.
