Nope. If he were in contention then I would expect him to spend too. Having a previously cheap owner doesn't mean the current one isn't. The knock is that Tillman has a contending team and is refusing to go all-in, or even use his exceptions, to avoid tax. He's actually giving away assets to avoid tax. I don't see what the prior owner has to do with that.
Nice try junior. I never once said Les sucked in this thread. I said he was mediocre. If being mediocre is okay with you then that's your prerogative.
Stick with the facts, and there's not that much difference between the spending of Les Alexander and what we've seen thus far from Tilman Fertitta. That's the entire point of the thread. Ironic that you're taking personal shots at me about trying to "spin" when your post concluded with a line about a hypothetical that never happened.
Les was cheap and he made a ton of money right before he knew the bill was going to get high. Tilman is cheap but he just spent a ton of money buying a team that had a high bill. I believe Tilman will be a more hands on owner throughout his tenure and his kids reign of power.
Hakeem , Horry, Sam Cassell, Mario Elle Didn’t originate from the Les Era, but were traded under his era. Steve Patterson was responsible for resigning of Hakeem and the acquisitions of these legends He was fired by Les before the season started If you look anything pose Olajuwon and pre Harden, there were terrible seasons with no playoffs or first round exits The only outlier was Yao and Ron Artest Winning one series We weren’t contenders with Tmac , he only played 20 playoff games for us
Steve's old school NBA ways didn't work out in college but at least we got better food and alcohol at the stadium now. Newb fans don't understand history, they just make assumptions now. This is the same mentality as the Michael Jordan didn't play when won the titles, which is false cause he got eliminated by Orlando in 95.
How many championships or playoff series wins did we have post Hakeem? Hakeem was there before Les and he was traded cause Les didn't want to pay him in his final season.
Not completely accurate. We offered him 3 years for $13M to ease into retirement while we ushered in the next chapter of the franchise. Dream thought he could still play, so he ended up signing with a desperate Toronto for 3 year / $18M and subsequently retired that year.
I would have paid him the extra $5 million the Lakers paid Kobe to retire a Laker. Loyalty and tradition were not part of the Les Alexander's vision of the Rockets.
Since he retired the following year, it was closer to $1.66M. On our end, we were actually paying him $4.33M each year to wave at the crowd basically which back then was a pretty cushy number. Point I am trying to make was that it's not like we tried to shaft him.
Dream was pissed off. I don't blame him. He's about loyalty just like Rudy T. It's a shame both didn't end their career as Rockets. because of the owner.
And? I don't see anywhere in my post denying Hakeem credit OR giving credit to Les for championships OR EVEN mentioning championships for that matter.
