You keep saying all-star but he was a write in replacement in the weak-assed east. They are so close to the cap it definitely means more of their experienced players will get dumped.

You just cant sell that adding DLo is somehow going to replace Klay and KD at least for next year

This team is prolly going to look more like the Monte Ellis- Steph Curry backcourt days next season

D Russell strikes me as a low IQ player. He just replaced KD, Iggy and a few others?

It’s the easily trade him part I’m not 100% sure on. If it doesn’t work out - with that coach, system, teammates, locker room... then it wont work out for anyone. I’m not eager to acquire Russell at $30 million when I know he’s not a championship type player.

Of course it might work out. Super high risk imo.

They aren't trading KD so they can get Russell. They were losing KD anyway. They are trading a 35 yr old Iggy and a bunch of spare parts for a 23-yr old potential all star. All the talk about the horror of losing guys like Looney is funny - he was a 6pts, 5reb player. In the GSW system with Curry creating space, they can probably find plenty of players like that and give them opportunities. If Houston make a move like this, people would rave about it. People here were willing to gut the team of most of our depth too to get Jimmy Butler.

They weren't contending next year as they were constructed, so why not? Assuming they sign Draymond next year, they'll have their core for 4 more years now and can work to build depth around those guys over time.

He's the kind of smart veteran who can help almost ANY team. Limited minutes at this point, but still.

Yeah, i'm in this camp, at least for now, i've never been a fan of Russell, reminds me of Irving but with less talent, we'll see how much he'll help the Warriors, one thing is for sure, their defense will be much worse without Durant and Iguodala, and Klay is out basically until the playoffs.

I don’t care if he made the all star team or not. Last year he was good for 21/7/4/1 and shot the ball fairly well... all at 23 years old. Players like that have value going forward, especially when surrounded by other really good players.

This trade isn’t just about next year. This deal is about the next 3-4 years where the Warriors will have 3 excellent perimeter players locked in.

If the Warriors choose to, they can trade him 12 months from now for assets.

The Warriors may still be able to keep Looney and honestly Iggy and Livingston were not part of their future right now.

The Warriors found another way to add an all star caliber player entering his prime... that is a victory for them.

You or the Rockets may or not trade for him, but look at the number of max contracts handed out today. A lot of these teams will have buyers remorse soon.

Russell is only 23 years old and will still retain his value. There are always sorry-ass franchises out there willing to take a gamble.

Warriors may not get a star player in return but they could easily land quality role-players and depth, which is exactly what they need.

It looks like many here haven’t gotten a chance to see how much better DLo is ever since he went to the nets. That fresh start was absolutely a blessing for him.

I was simply saying he would be a good fit fir the Rockets and that both parties had mutual interest in the past. Obviously, any contender would love to have Iguodala.

Lol first of all I'll believe DLo is an allstar when he makes it in the West. Reminds me of Jrue Holiday he was also an allstar in the East what happened to him when he cam to the Pels?

Secondly DLo is horrible fit next to Curry in fact he is like a worse version of Harden he is a ball dominant pg with bad defense. It's def a win in terms of adding value but in terms of contention GSW just shut their window on their own. Can they even afford Klay, Curry and DLo all on max deals? I mean Rox are capped put with just 2.

Toronto showed them in no uncertain terms that they needed to be younger and more athletic. It's not clear if they're better, but it's definitely interesting.

Or maybe they're just not sold on a guy who just had a nice season in his 4th year in the league playing in a team filled by rookies and sophomores ;)

I don’t understand this he made the all star in the east logic. The west is absolutely loaded with guards. Just bc a Conley or a butler doesn’t make it bc of the depth, that doesn’t mean they’re not all star caliber players. DLo is absolutely an all star caliber talent no matter what conference he’s in

He didn’t just come out of nowhere. He wasn’t some complete scrub in the first 3. He took the leap that only some players are able to make. And with that team full of rookies and Sophs he made them competitive. That’s a compliment in my book
