Clutchfans murmurs will not miraculously become reality.

That's true, but my guess is we bring back Green (don't we have early-bird on him?), and hope and pray that House gets nothing in FA and comes back to us. It will be hard without exceptions because roster filling could be contingent on trades and vet's min deals. But, if Houston nets Butler guys could also see it as a premiere destination and do the LeBron ring chaser thing.

Fantasy. Opt-in trade is the only way this happens.

You're operating under the faulty assumption that the Rockets would gut their roster to add Jimmy Butler and then play the exact same style of basketball as they did last season with Butler playing the role of guys like Gordon and House. You don't add a Jimmy Butler to have him stand in a corner and jack up 3s. You do it because it adds another dynamic to your offense and gives you an explosive two-way weapon who can create his own offense and create for others.

If the Rockets added Jimmy Butler, things would be changing pretty dramatically...

we do have a bevy of trade exceptions available, 2 of which are in the $3M range. i don't think they can be at all combined, but we could be like the opposite of last season and take on players one at a time from teams trying to shed salary. i still don't like this whole scenario though. if we're going to go thru all this hassle, dump our depth, and be locked into a HUGE MAX contract would rather do it for a younger bigger or better shooting player than jimmy.

I get your reservations, they make sense. I don't share all of them, but it's definitely in the vein of upping the risk profile. If I recall correctly trade exceptions can't be combined, but you're right, they can be used to acquire some talent too. The Rockets are gonna need a lot of luck for this plan to work, luck in that Jimmy B says yes, luck in that no key pieces miss a lot of time, and luck in that they can snipe some more depth come trade deadline. If anyone can pull it off it's DM, but I totally understand what people are saying.

Why do these articles read as if Feagen is Captain Morey's yeoman, sitting in the outer office with the burnt-coffee coffeemaker in one corner, and:

    Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
    "Yes, Captain my Captain?"
    "Bring your memopad, Feig."
    Enters office, sits. "Yes?"
"Take this down." Dictates Jimmy Butler bulls***. "Read it back to me.......Good. Print that."

unfortunately i think it's a given that paul will miss time. i wouldn't mind go thru all the hoops to eventually replace his contract with jimmy's. but to have both of them on the team it's just too much $ tied up imo with not enough left for real roster depth

If they get Oubre at MLE long term that’s a successful summer to me. Highly doubt it ,he’s getting 12+

June 30th can’t get here fast enough.

I agree that he isn’t an an ideal spot up shooter, but Jimmy is a basketball player. He’s a dog. We need a killer who can get his own shot when the offense bogs down. I’m in the Jimmy > EG camp.

to me, EG is just a shot specialist. a shot specialist is replaceable imo. jimmy is a star who can do it all. big difference

OK, OK - - yet, do. NOT. undersell. EGo. He is a legit rotation NBAer.

Biggest differences (i.e. 'equalizer in value) tween'n'twixt JB & EGo is EGo's personality and proven fit.

I agree all around. The only reason I'm cool with watching Eric leave is I don't think he's going to resign here. I would still rather lose Capela or CP3 though.

He won't want to be stuck on a team with Chris Paul's contract through his prime. Just being realistic.
