Nick Caserio is overrated. The Patriots are good because of Bill Belichick. Why won't the Texans go after someone from the Packers' organization, or from the Seahawks' organization? This is the Texans' chance to get someone good to be their GM, don't waste it!!!!
Yeah, I barely heard about him a year ago. Now he's someone we have to go after without even an interview? For all we know he could just be a glorified scout
Wake me up when the Texans hire someone young who wants to start an analytics department. Football remains ripe for a young trendsetter to come in and prove all the old establishment types wrong. Someone whose mathematical model isn't going to tell them to trade all their picks away for future picks or later round picks, like Sashi did on the Browns.
It is precisely the kind of circuitous logic of “it has never worked before, it is never going to work in the future” that kept baseball back for decades, that kept basketball back for another decade, and will keep American football back the longest. Even soccer is using that data now. Until the ownership starts to take a proactive stance to where things are headed then this franchise will always be stuck in second gear. And if that lasts our lifetimes thanks to Rube McNair and his bumpkin kin, then so be it.
