The best thing that could happen to the Democrats now is Beto to drop out of this race for president by saying he's going to focus on winning Texas and run against Cornyn. He could help drive up turnout in Texas again.
Slightly? Trump will win Texas, but by single digits. You have to go back to Bob Dole to find a Republican candidate that did worse than Trump in Texas. If the right candidate wins the primary, you could very well see a Beto-esque performance.
Trump and Texas make interesting ranch-fellows (would never say bed-fellows). Texas puts a lot of value on manners and civility and restraint and basic toughness from men. 45 shows absolutely none of those things and is the walking embodiment of "all hat, no cattle." Still, I think he'll win Texas pretty handily in 2020. These polls are so meaningless for 45. Few people (as evidenced on this mostly anonymous BBS even) will admit they support him, much less admit that they will vote for him. But they do, and they will.
Agreed. Living in GA, we have our own narrow loss Democrat in Stacey Abrams who is still considering a Presidential run and turned down running against David Perdue. It sucks because highly unlikely a lesser known candidate can take down Perdue.
Wholly agree on both, but I think part of the problem is the Senate is so dysfunctional that no one wants to be in it. It seems like a horrible job where McConnell and Schumer do everythings and everyone just sits and nods. Legislation is no longer developed in committees, etc. Also partly why something like 10 Dem Senators are running for President, despite most having zero shot.
They are also running for president because it can be a financial boon as well as a major career advancement step. But agree with you that the Senate is broken.
