JVG has been out of the league so long that he must become an assistant before given a head coaching job again. Similar to MDA taking the assistant job in Philly before joining us. Thibs I think will be patient at least till next season. Ime Udoka and Darvin Ham would be great gets too. Thanks for the article @justtxyank .
Good stuff. Bzdelik or not, it’s hard to envision us moving away from the switch-everything defense. A defense that is predicated upon personnel; not so much who’s technically running it.
It's hard to pry a very good assistant coach, who is already settled. I'm sure quite a few would want the opportunity to become a head coach. Hollins isn't a good fit for a player's coach like MDA, he would undermine his authority. Morey should go all out to convince JVG to come back as the defensive coordinator. He is the only person with any emotional ties to the Rockets. No to Thibs please. Nothing will work well without better players. That has to be the main goal. Nuff of MCW and Ennis types. That won't improve defense one bit.
why would a coach be OK with the firing of all his assistants? then on top of that , having the GM put together the staff for him. there is something not right about this situation.
Udoka would be a attractive get. Perhaps more attractive given the likelihood that the Rockets would be auditioning for the head coach job next year.
I'm ashamed at you guys for not mentioning the best Rockets assistant coaching option. This man is known for toughness, defense, and clutch performances, and he has played with, coached with, and coached some of the greatest players and coaches ever. Let's just mention some of his credentials: 3 time NBA Champion as one of the original and GOAT 3 & D specialists Rockets Legend Speaks 4 languages, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Bring on the international ballers) Has coached on team with Greg Popovich, PJ Carlissimo, Terry Stotts, Mike Budenhouser, Avery Johnson, Paul Westphal, Dwane Casey, Popeye Jones (lol), Don Nelson (Exec), Chris Mullins(Exec) Played Under Greg Popovich, Rick Adelman, Rudy Tomjonavich, Don Nelson Coached Tim Duncan, Juwan Howard, Dirk Norwitzki, Robert Horry, DeMarcus Cousins, Samuel Dalembert, Eric Dampier,Kevin Willis, Brook Lopez, Hassan "the nitemare" Whiteside, Cliff Robinson, Chuck Hayes, Jerry Stackhouse, Kevin Martin, Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Tony Parker, Deron Williams, Aaron Gordon, Joe Johnson, Derek Fisher, Victor Oladipo, Baron Davis, Hedo Turkoglo, Mehmet Okur, Omri Cassipi, Ersan Ilysova, Montae Ellis, DeWayne Dedmon, Marcus Thornton, Gerald Wallace, Gerald Green, Jason Richardson, Carl Landry, Nikola Vucevic, Bruce Bowen, Luther Head, Isaiah Thomas (younger), Terrance "the Kraken" Williams, Kris Humphries (Kardashian-ex connection), Tyronn Lue, Francisco Garcia, Ron Mercer, Kenny Thomas, Josh Howard, Channing Frye Played With Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan, Charles Barkley, Manute Bol, Kevin Willis, David Robinson, Robert Horry, Steve Kerr, Scott Brooks, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullins, Kenny Smith, Tim Hardaway, Otis Thorpe, Rick Mahorn, Vernon Maxwell, Mitch Richmond, Matt Bullard Responsible for the most iconic moment in Rocket history Spoiler: You Should Already Know By Now!!! Mario Elie How long did it take you to remember this guy? Where are the real Clutchfans?
Asked specifically about Elston Turner, a former Rockets assistant who is greatly respected around the league and the Rockets interviewed for the head coaching position after Rick Adelman did not return, LeGarie said it would be premature to speculate if that would be a good fit. Turner was most recently the assistant head coach on Dave Joerger’s staff with the Sacramento Kings. “There’s been no discussion, other than I was told they like him,” said LeGarie, who represents Turner.
Players coached by Mario Elie have won championships as coaches for 4 the last years and potentially 5.
Really? I'm wish I was as confident about that as you. The question I have is who would come here to be an assistant for a head coach who has been setup to be a lame duck coach. They'd have to have some sort of assurance that they would be at the front of the line in the upcoming coaching search once D'Antoni is gone. I just can't see the dynamics of that working out very well - said assistants would not have a vested interest in helping D'Antoni be successful as that would most likely benefit him with a contract extension which would leave them no better off than before. This is just a mess...
Morey needs to hire Spurs legend Tracy McGrady as assistant coach so he stops going on ESPN to talk about how Harden will never win anything.
