Let's see how this shakes out. All we know right now is that it's broad and happening at the start of the offseason, which suggests some clear decisions at the top with an eye toward maximizing our hiring options and the timetable for working them in.
You mean we shouldn't immediately overreact and assume doom and gloom? Are you trying to say they have a plan and this isn't a bunch of reactionary and hastily conceived moves?
Well Roy, I didn't know much about your impact. But your half-time interviews were better than JB Bickerstaff.
Seriously. What’s more likely knowing what we know about Morey... 1) he’s in a power struggle with the owner and lashing out while the owner slashes costs 2) they made a decision after lots of research and Evaluation and have decided to go in another direction
maybe even JVG as well. if you can't put three superstars on the court, you might as well have them coaching on the bench
Coaching personnel is important but the more important thing is who they let go and who they sign to employ the strategy. Players. Can't really judge until they make rotation moves. MDA and Morey will keep on doing what they do best - squeeze out the last drop of fuel from those minimum players.
I wouldn't if I were JVG, if he fails, that would be the 2nd time he fails with a franchise, he is a much better commentator than a coach. JVG took coaching too seriously, he is just not meant to be a coach long term. Much better commentator at that.
https://stats.nba.com/teams/defense...onType=Regular Season&Month=2&CF=TEAM_NAME*E* The entire month of November(Jeff came back at the end of November on the 23rd) we were 6th in the league in defensive efficiency. Yea we were trash to start out. But Roy got us back on track and we ere trending upward and when Jeff came back we started getting worse but the we were amazing post all star break. There is your proof. I love Jeff and wish he was still here btw.
Anyone know how many times in NBA history has a coach been fired then came back again as a coach (HC or assistant) for the same team? It can't have happened very often.
We were by far the worst rebounding team in that stretch, but you proved your point. It really didn’t feel like we were worth a crap on defense until the all star break though. That was in large part due to injuries so I cut Rogers and Bzdelik both slack. I think Bzdelik was only let go because he wasn’t sure if he was coming back and we wanted to get a good defensive coach before the market dried up. It was less about his coaching and more about the uncertainty
Let's go into the offseason with 0 defensive coaches and without the best NBA skills trainer developmental. What could go wrong?
Unfortunately we were bad at rebounding all year and it was our downfall this year. Man if that trade for Jamychal Green went through we would have beaten them.
I love MDA but I would seriously would consider bringing in Ty Lue. He's young, defensive minded coach. Runs a spread PnR offense. Has ties with so many players we could use. He knows how to handle a SUPERSTAR with diva like qualities. He's played with so many great players, won chips. Had battles with the worriers. It almost makes too much sense.
There was no chance of it going through with the meager choices that were given to the Grizzlies. Morey should have known better than that.
