Landry Locker Sources: The Decision To Pick Up MDA’s Option Next Season Was Fertitta’s, Not Morey

Just to be clear, this is a different story than his initial tweet that I disagreed with.

His first story was that Tilman picked up DAntoni's option and now Morey was lashing out by firing all of the assistants because he was mad. That was simply not true (the Morey part.)

I firmly believe this portion of the story. Tilman was enamored with D'Antoni right away. You could tell from his early press conferences. Then he had success. Not surprising at all that Tilman wanted to pick up the option. With that said, we know very little about the option. It may have had a date on it that it had to be exercised by.

Regardless, picking up the option isn't what will keep D'Antoni here next year. Tilman still liked D'Antoni. If he decides he doesn't want him here he will fire him. Tilman has never had a problem firing a coach with money owed still. As soon as he believes you aren't the guy he goes looking for your replacement. What he has NO history of though is firing a coach without a replacement lined up.

Rockets are not winning with MDA as coach. A coach that doesn't coach. No way in hell I'm wasting time on the Rockets this off season or next season unless real changes are made. I have my own millions to make. Figure this **** out.

As a UH fan, Tilman doesn’t settle for losing for long. If he wants to make a change, he’ll go get who he thinks is the best possible guy.

And, no, he doesn’t always agree with his staff or his coaches. He and Sampson were waging a war behind the scenes the last couple of years in regards to Sampson’s contract. In the end, Tilman ponied up and kept him because it’s what was best for business. As far as Morey leaving...didn’t he just sign a long extension?

The narratives on this board about him being “cheap” and out of his element are hilarious at times and inane at others. Guy didn’t get to where he was by sitting back and resting on his laurels. Now, the mafia connections...those I believe, but we don’t talk about that too much...if you know what I mean.

How do we figure that Fertitta would block Morey on firing MDA, yet let Morey fire all of his staff? Dysfunctional decision making? Compromise? Rumor being BS?

Which relationship is strained? Morey MDA or Morey Fertitta. Neither?

This needs more context or it's just going to cause more wild assumptions by Clutchfans.

 

I want to believe, dun want any more drama, need more context and info though.
