I just saw this.... Trump Signs Directive to Create a Military Space Force With China creating space lasers, this seems like a move long over due. Dominance of space will be key to make sure that we are prepared for future warfare. https://www.pcmag.com/news/366516/pentagon-china-russia-developing-satellite-killing-lasers
You nailed it... senator ted cruz says the space force is a good idea because... wait for it... space pirates. Arrrrrr!
This seems so farcical. Ted Cruz doesn't REALLY believe we need to prep right now for Space Pirates does he? Are we sure this isn't a trick to get money for the DoD somehow?
Don't have a problem with Cruz's reference to space piracy. I do have a problem with his intimation that the Greeks somehow were the first to invent the navy.
(probably not safe for work... or any decent set of eardrums... but Houston area band from the way back.)
If they are in Houston I'm signing up. Surely there will be some sort of office job that just involves meeting after meeting with absolutely nothing getting accomplished. I'm well-suited for such a role.
I think that's what the ENTIRE Space Force will be doing. Stranger: What do you do for a living? Me: Oh, I'm a Colonel in the Space Force. Stranger: Neat! You fly in space then? Me: No, actually I just put stamps on the envelopes when we forward money from our budget to the other branches of DoD. Sometimes I change the Ozarka bottle out if the Lieutenant is busy.
Space Command was reestablished today. Trump says Space Force will soon follow. Is there a good chance Space Force will be based in Houston? Already have NASA and all their contractors in place. I worry that he would put it in a swing state to get more votes. I was hoping that it would be Houston-based. We could have dozens of CFers get a job there and we could all have these discussions in person - that would be great fun. When things go bad in the office we could say, "Well at least the LOFs are off CF." and it would make us feel better.
I’d like to see Space Command be given to Ellington as it would make a ton of sense. However, my guess is they give it to Petersen AFB in Colorado Springs since the Air Force’s Space Command is already there. As far as an actual Space Force, if he’s dead set on creating it, he should just turn the Air Force into the Space Force while giving some of the Air Force roles back to the Army and Navy (it isn’t as if they don’t have their own planes already). There would be way too much overlap otherwise and would hemorrhage way too much money. Either that, or change the Air Force’s name to “Air and Space Force” and move on.
