No. It's not just names. It's production against quality opponents. It's the type of coaching they received. It's stats. It's schemes. It's combine numbers. It's a lot of things. It's not just names. For instance, Dillard performed better against better opponents than Tytus Howard. He has name value because of his performance. So did other players like Cody Ford and Jawaun Taylor. Greg Little even performed better against quality opponents. What Tytus might have over them is work ethic and coachability which is hard to quantify. Maybe the Texans saw something that nobody else saw. Perhaps. But all the other guys that got drafted in the first round were first round prospects that were all over mock drafts and draft boards.
They are betting on having a great player development. A bet that I dont feel great about. But at least at least there's a chance for everything to go right.
This would have been an A+ draft if they had signed Donald Penn (or someone better) instead of Matt Kalil resigned Clowney traded for Patrick Peterson traded for Jordan Howard retained Matthieu AND signed Gipson signed Roger Saffold
I know nothing about these players but they can't possibly be worse than what we have been trotting out there on the oline and CB the past 2 years can they.
LMAO He was here for over a decade and was mediocre at best. There's a reason this team looks like the cut out at a gun range. Holes everywhere. It was past time for his incompetent ass to be let go.
Yeah, I bet you would have rather had Rick this past weekend though. We need someone who won't be bullied by BoB. BoB took all of Gaines lunch money this past weekend.
If Howard is the LT of the future and Scharping is the RT of the future then this draft class will be a success. Warring will probably end up being the best pick from this class.
I feel less bad about the Howard pick considering the run of tackles that happened in the beginning of the 2nd round. If they think he is their guy they needed to grab him. Sure, MAYBE they could have traded back a few spots and get him but was it worth the risk? We won't know for 2-3 years after we see how all these guys play.
After over a decade I will pass on this. You think BOB said Howard is my guy? I dont. I think Devlin worked him out 3 times and told Gaine/BOB this is the guy I want.
This is part of the problem of having such a glaring need. What happened to all that talk about "best player available"? They reached because they had a desperate need at tackle. I'm not surprised they did that, I'm just surprised they went with Tytus and not Greg Little. If they had brought in a starting caliber LT in free agency then they could have truly drafted BPA. Cody Ford and Dalton Risner are better linemen but they might not be better left tackles. It just seems they got 3 2nd/3rd rounders which might end up being okay. But this is why you don't build just through the draft. You use every avenue available. Plus this:
You can tell how people felt about the draft by seeing how much more excited they are about the udfa that were brought in.
