Spurs should blow it up. Send Aldridge ($26,000,000) back to Portland for expiring contracts: Harkeless: $11,011,236 Leonard: $11,286,517
That was a weird ending. How do you not know to foul in that situation? Almost as bad as the Rockets in the 2007 playoffs not fouling down 2 with 10 seconds to go.
Aldridge said he didn't hear Popovich yelling to foul? Why does he even need to hear it? There was 25 seconds left and you're down by four. His teammates are telling him to foul? Why didn't one of them run over to the guy with the ball and foul?
Poor Pops, can't contain his intense anger that lurks within waiting for the opportunity to Bobby Knight out of him. Guy never loses well. And loves to chastise his players in front of the camera. No wonder Kawhi bolted. And to think Pops coddled Aldridge with his quiet-spoken, hard-working true franchise-leader watching. Probably trying to teach Kawhi a lesson. lulz You got arguably the best passer in the league standing there convasing his terrain, and you're going to rush a double team to foul him. That ain't going to work, either. Down 4 with 20 seconds left, sending 82% shooter to the line. Definite mistake, but 99% of the time wouldn't change the outcome.
It's going to work better than NOT fouling him. They would at least force some action. Also, having them shoot free throws to go up probably 5-6 with 20 seconds left is better than letting the clock run down to 1.5 seconds. It may not have changed the outcome, but it would give them a 5% chance of winning rather than a 0% chance.
That's what me saying "definite mistake" means. And it doesn't give them a 5% chance of winning. More like the same chances of workhorse David Robinson getting a major injury and winning the lottery the year Duncan comes out. So, who knows, Pops is a lucky man.
I guess Aldridge was hoping to force a turnover in that situation? If nothing else, need to trap the ball handler — do something!
And they'd need to do it successfully TWICE, with two scores as a result. At least Pops got the opportunity to blame his players in public, afterwards....very cathartic and important to do.
Told ya'll Demar Derozan wasn't going to do **** in the playoffs and that it was a bad trade for the Spurs.
Ugh I can’t believe I just rewatched that after all these years. Painful. Thanks for that I think this game is up there with the Lillard game winner, the Stockton 3, and the 93 game 7 loss to Seattle as most painful losses for me.
Of course it was a bad trade, but the Spurs didn’t have much choice but to trade Leonard. It was kind of amazing they got an all star in return. I suppose you could argue they should have just traded for picks and tanked, but I don’t think Pop would be down with that.
Portland does not want Aldridge bruh! : / If Spurs brought Rudy gay out of retirement then they should do the same to bring oj "juice" mayo outta retirement : / or even Nick young. Still don't know how popovich was bringing Dante Cunningham off the bench in games 5 and 6. They must really be desperate.
It's common? You're telling me shots to the nuts are common in Europe? I am not surprised I did not discover this on visiteurope.com. Now excuse me while I cancel my trip.
