For those looking for a new podcast, the Twelve Six by Colling McHugh. First episode is him talking with LMJ last season (i.e., no injury news) about baseball and non-baseball stuff. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-twelve-six-podcast/id1448122136 https://theathletic.com/752273/2019...hugh-launched-his-own-podcast-the-twelve-six/
Not bad for a first outing where everyone EXCEPT ME questioned his readiness. Spring training to McHugh is like practice to Iverson.
Keep bringing it. You think he might have gotten a little bit pissed off when he was sent to the pen last year?
I don’t expect him to be as good as he’s been, but I would not be surprised at all to see him have a very good season. I think going to the bully last year may have helped him.
Right? He doesn't have to be, he just has to be an average MOR starter, anything above that is gravy.
I know the results today were good, but he seemed kind of all over the place today. I expect he will have better performances (like his first start) than he did today. I expect he'll have some clunkers, as well. McHugh should have a very good year.
You're not wrong, he got lucky with a few pitches today. A couple of his sliders just floated up there, but they were so outside nobody even wanted to swing at them
All Time Astro Win-Loss % (as of 4/6/19) 1. Roger Clemens .679 2. Collin McHugh .640 3. Roy Oswalt .636 4. Mark Portugal .634 5. Jim Ray .609 6. Scott Elarton .604 7. Mike Hampton .603 8. J.R. Richard .601 9. Wade Miller .598 10. Andy Pettitte .587
What further adjustments does he need to make? I know the slider started the year being unhittable... is he just not locating it now, or are teams actively looking for it since its no longer a secret?
Movement seems fine. Location seems slightly off, but not enough to explain what is going on. He drops his arm angle to throw his slider. It wasn't that different last year from his fastball arm slot, but he's gone full-Cosart this year. Best guess is with him throwing it more and telegraphing it with the different arm slot, batters are timing it up better last few games. When he makes a mistake with the juiced ball, bad things happen this year when they didn't last year.
If that's the case, needs to back off the slider some and stick with fastball/curveball combos if its a more similar release point. He was actually more consistent as a starter back in 2015, pre-slider.
