We're ranked no. 1. championship game in new orleans or bust. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-power-rankings 1) Astros The Astros bowed out earlier than anticipated in last year's postseason when mounting injuries to key players became too much to overcome. The two most high-profile players from that group -- Jose Altuve, who was playing with a broken kneecap, and Carlos Correa, who fought through lower back issues much of the season -- appear to be past their respective health issues. Meanwhile, the Astros added one of the game's best contact hitters in Michael Brantley to a lineup that already employs Alex Bregman, who, like Brantley, rarely strikes out. The two are expected to be side by side in the batting order. *not going to mention that the writer is Houston friendly.
Cole will get paid well upcoming off-season. Not DeGrom type money but very close. At this point, it hard to think that GC will be back next year. Hopefully, Whitley will be ready to take 2nd or 3rd spot in the rotation next year.
If he repeats this season he will get more than DeGrom, probably more than Sale. DeGrom still had 2 years of team control and would have hit FA at 32, that situation forced him to settle. Gerrit Cole will only be 29 next season. Another dominant year and he will be closer to 200 million than 140 million.
I think Scherzer’s contract is in reach for Cole if he has another career year. Scherzer was 30 when he signed for $210M/7yr, and he’s been worth it. He had put up ~16 fWAR over his previous 4 seasons. Cole will be 29 and with a good year will have had a better performance prior to free agency. But Cole may not have a career year. If he has a middling year (2.5-4 fWAR), he’s probably looking at ~$170M/6yr. If he has a bad year (1.5-2.5 fWAR), he will be looking at something like $120M/5yr. If he gets hurt or completely melts down, he will be on a heavy incentive laden 1 year deal.
That's actually a reasonable number, so Boras won't start that low. Assuming another dominant year I think 6/180, 7/200 are very realistic numbers for Cole given his age. So I'm sure Boras will start at some stupid number much higher than that.
Boras really **** the bed on this one. Keuchel should just take the deal that Houston offered. No state income tax and a legit chance to win a ring. If he pitches well he bet on himself. Clearly not much out there for him
I made a mistake. For some reason, I kept thinking 5/157.5M. I agreed that if GC has a successful season like he did last yr, he should easily get 6Y/180M minimum.
