Trent Brown got overpaid, Landon Collins got OVERPAID, and while Desean Jackson would’ve been nice a WR isn’t priority 1
I don't think they've necessarily missed on anyone yet but Kareem Hunt(Browns signed him for nothing for obvious reasons; Texans would never) DeSean Jackson(previous trade deadline target) Eric Weddle (Rams got him for cheap; 2 years $10.5M; He's 34 & I know signing anyone over the age of 30 gives them flashbacks to Ahman Green & Ed Reed ) I kinda like this Humphries deal that just came in. 26 years old, undrafted from Clemson; Maybe $9M is a tad high for a guy with just 9 TDs in 4 years and never prior to this year had more than 700 yards receiving but... (I'm not looking to discard Fuller or Coutee but I'm not counting on them to stay healthy either.)
Everyone is getting "overpaid". Who cares how much they get paid if they help the team win. Getting one or two of the top guys in FA (or via trade) isn't going to kill cap space. If you want the best, you're going to have to pay for it.
Wake me up when a smart team starts making important signings. You don't see the Patriots, Rams, Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs, or Colts splurging just yet. I honestly don't know why the entire NFL doesn't just try to imitate everything the Pats do, from focusing on Phase Two free agency signings to doing everything they can to stockpile 2nd and 3rd round picks and future picks. It's clearly worked in the past. Morey has said the same thing: sometimes the draft is a crapshoot, so your best bet is to get a LOT of picks.
“If they help the team win” is the key, none of those free agents help win for what they’re worth. None of those guys are the key to a playoff berth or Super Bowl. Notice the teams signing those guys.
Patriots traded for Michael Bennet Rams signed Eric Weddle I don't know if I would put the Steelers in the "smart teams" right now Chiefs have no cap space, they're releasing players
I like the dude but his skin is thinner than a 16 year old girl. Badger desperately needs a social media detox.
And the Jags started the offseason will the least amount of cap space coming off a horrible season, and blew what they had on Nick Foles. Most of their contributions came from talent they drafted outside of Calais Campbell. The Rams are the exception I’ll give you them, but they benefit from elite coaching.
AJ Bouye, Campbell and Church definitely made a difference. And I don't think fans want the Texans to go get a bunch of high priced FAs or trade. I think they want them to get 1 or 2 of the top players at their position. Like Gilmore/Cooks (Pats 2017), Trent Brown (Pats 2018), Bennett( Pats 2019). It's day one and there's a lot of time left but I'm not expecting the Texans to make any major moves outside of resigning their guys. That's my expectation. I don't like it but it is what it is.
I don't trust rookie left tackles or rookie cornerbacks on a team that is trying to contend. I don't expect the Texans to fill every hole but at least a starting left tackle or CB is what I wanted So at this point the options at left tackle are overpay Ja'wuan James, roll with Davenport again, or a rooke LT. Better make backup QB a priority. Deshaun will be running for his life again.
