One year where a guy plays in 88 games and has 0 or 1 plate appearances in 22 of those games doesn't make me believe his injury history is not a problem.

And I didn't include the one where he ate a pitch in the face while hitting or missed some time last year when he took one off the hand/wrist.

He hasn't played in 100 games in a season at the MLB or minor league level since 2014.

Yes..he was on the DL in 2017. Getting hit is just bad luck. Not like a recurring knee problem or hamstring issues.

ETA - considering last season was the first that Stassi was even in the big leagues as a regular backup, it's not surprising he has yet to play 100 games in the majors. Maldonado didn't play in 100 games until he was 30 years old.

Stassi was going to be the backup in 2016... got hurt during spring training.

I don't have a problem with Stassi, but the way some pitchers reacted to his game calling last year is a little worrisome. Hopefully Chirinos can handle a big work load. I know Hinch says he won't let pitchers have designated catchers but I hope Chirinos gets most of the Verlander games and Keuchel games if he comes back.

As of today, I don't want them to rely on Stassi for an extended period either....my only point is that Maldanado doesn't appear to be an upgrade over Stassi as a backup.

The Royals are in agreement with free agent catcher Martin Maldonado on a one-year, $2.5MM contract

Dallas Keuchel is the top pitching free agent available.

Radio interview pretty much stating the obvious (that nobody has offered him a long-term deal).

I’m not disappointed for him, it’s the system MLB has. He will get paid and it also looks like he will test free agency when the time comes. He will want biggest contract ever for third baseman.

Bregman needs to complain to his union. This is what they collectively bargained. You expect owners to hand out more than they have to (which the Astros did) because why exactly? You taking a discount when it comes to free agency? Didn't think so....

To be fair, he did say this would have no effect on him when he gets to free agency

He was just a little hurt by not being able to come to agreement with the club and having to be renewed

Not sure anyone tries harder to connect with his fan base in all of sports than Bregman

Bregman will make the best business decision for him when the time comes, as will the Astros.

None of this s**t ever matters. The current system is dog s**t for young players, blame your union.

It's a huge year for Bregman in determining his next 3 years of income. If he has another big year he is likely looking at 10 million plus for his first year of arbitration. Lindor received 10.55 million this year. If Bregman gets injured or has a down year he could be in a Correa like situation. Correa won rookie of the year and was probably on pace to be in the range of Lindor until his injuries. That cost Correa 5 million this year and possibly as much as 20 million over his arbitration years because they base your arbitration salary off your performance and also your previous salary.
