For the last 3 games... The Rockets have looked like straight trash against scrub opponents with horrible lineups (the Magic, the Pelicans' bench, and the Nuggets' bench). Most of us agree that the problem is defense, so let's see who is playing individual defense. Opponents shooting percentage vs each Rocket during this 3 game tragedy.... Opp vs J Harden = 37.2% made Opp vs Chris Paul = 42.9% made Opp vs E Gordon = 57.1% made Opp vs PJ Tucker = 53.3% made Opp vs K Faried = 44.4% made Opp vs J Ennis = 71.4% made Opp vs G Green = 60.0% made Opp vs A Rivers = 50.0% made Opp vs NeNe = 53.8% made So, as you can see, the guys who have been trash on defense during this 3-game abomination are... Eric Gordon PJ Tucker James Ennis (TRASH!!!!!!!!) Gerald Green NeNe Since we rarely use Gary Clark, lets see how opponents have scored vs Gary Clark in the entire month of January (9 appearances) Opp vs Gary Clark = 45.6% made In other words, Clark plays great defense yet he rarely gets playing time because he is young & his shot is off. But, does James Ennis really deserve minutes over him??? Seriously. And finally, let's look at Isaiah Hartenstein on defense. Since he has rarely played, lets look at what opponents are shooting vs Isaiah over the entire season (24 appearances) Opp vs Hartenstein = 42.1% made In other words, he is great on defense (and rebounds)...but for some idiotic reason we don't play him. Just an observation. FIN
Last night... Opp vs Clark = 1/1 for 100% made Opp vs Ennis = 7/8 for 87.5% made Clark barely played. Ennis got plenty of minutes and was DUMPSTER JUICE
We played our best basketball of the season when Ennis was out.... Its pretty obvious, we need to replace him ASAP. House would be the ideal scenario.
So harden guarding guys a half foot taller and 40 pounds heavier is our defensive player? No way you’re best player should be you’r best offensive and defensive player
I like when fans take the time to research and do their own homework. Much respect to you!! People keep saying House is needed and such. I saw him play a bit and wasn't OVERLY impressed. He just had a NBA body and blended in to the eye. But what are his stats that make people desire him so much. I know Ennis is hated, but is House REALLY the answer, or just a better band aid?
House played decent defense , was great at helping protect the rim and rebound. He also avg. 12-15 points by himself...we can’t get that from PJ Ennis combined
Don't know if it is possible but rather than replacing Ennis with House there is another ex UH player I would rather have and that is Damyean Dotson. I watched him play last night and he looked to me like he would be a good fit for our team. He is usually relegated to the bench but with the Knicks recent trade he finally got a chance to start and scored 22 points, hit 4 of 8 threes and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Last night game Harden was HORRIBLE and it was all from a lack of effort. He makes PJ look so bad at times
Advanced stats are advanced stats, but based on the eye test, none of them look particularly great on defense. PJ Tucker has been almost useless this season aside from the 8 games or so where he shot lights out. They need House back into the starting lineup ASAP and a bunch of other 3+D wings to replace Ennis, Green, and Rivers (which have been terrible for the Rockets).
Ennis doesn’t belong on a +.500 team. Not only is he getting exposed on defense but I suspect that he is among the least clutch guys ever.
This is a terrible stat to judge defense. If player A blows a switch that leaves someone open, then player B has to sprint out to cover their ass for the mistake, and runs full speed to try to contest a wide open 3, guess what shows up in this stat? This stat, especially with our defensive scheme, is almost meaningless. Basically any player who makes a defensive mistake that leaves someone wide open will not be penalized with this stat. Especially in last nights game, our problem was not people making shots over our defenders. Our problem was people making shots who were not defended at all. In the first half especially I feel like Denver got a wide open shot on all but maybe 5 of their possessions. Every single time they had the ball they were able to exploit our poor defense and find somebody uncovered.
No rim protector = bad team defense Everyone didn’t just suddenly start sucking on defense. There’s no one in the middle to drive the ball handler to.
