It makes no sense for the Knicks to trade Porzingis this early, unless they know something we don't know about Porzingis' injury. The Mavs could very well be a playoff team in 2 years time and the picks probably won't yield a player of Porzingis calibre. I think the Mavs won the deal.

You are right after thinking about it some more. Luka and Unicorn is amazing marketing material and would get all the Mavheads all pumped up but the specifics are worrysome.

Regardless whether it works for the Mavs or not Knicks won that trade they get to tank for Zion and also have space for 2 max FAs next year.

Porzingis is overrated tbh. He reminds me of Bargnani.

Knicks win this deal if they get it done in free agency...they are actually set up quite nicely, but it all depends on what happens this summer

Not going to argue that metrics tell the whole story, but Jokic has a higher defensive rating than Capela with a defensive win share of .109 vs .073. Even if you could somehow argue offense vs defense... Jokic's offense >>> Capela's defense.

Capela is the better fit for our system so feel free to argue that point.

Why do people think trading Porzingis is tanking for Zion? They are already at the bottom. Porzi is not gonna play enough games this season to bring them out of the top 4 positions in the lottery.

It's about who they traded him for. They certainly could have traded him for more wins this year.

They lose Courtney Lee who is a good 2 way player and Tim Hardaway who was their scoring threat. If they buy out DSJ and Matthews basically just Knox and Alonzo Greer at wing.

Dallas did really good. Finney-Smith and Kleber both get more minutes.
Both really underrated. They'll be better next year for sure.

Analytically, the Knicks do not win this trade. Swinging for the fences when in all likelihood they'll just hit a pop fly. Since 1985 only 6 teams with the worst record won the lottery. Getting Zion is far from a guarantee. And the chances they entice 2 superstars to join an organization as flawed as the Knicks are pretty slim. Even if they pull it off, it doesn't make this a smart trade because they're taking a huge gamble.

Now to contradict myself, Porzingis has been injured often and may not be the player I think he is so I could be completely wrong... but I'm not here to play friends. I come to CF to argue and call everyone b%#@$es

exactly. if this was done by a well known organization that has the track record of consistently solid moves, it could be viewed as a pretty good deal. But nah, its the knicks. How many years have people been saying they're going to be relevant again after clearing room to sign "max players". The cap room sounds nice and all but the like-hood of them getting anyone really worth it, pretty much slim to none.

The Knicks will always have a ticking bomb in their hands.
We all know how Ainge is manipulating and has the Boston media in his palm. All he has to do is release some "anonymous sources" about some of Dolan's escapades and no big name star will want to go there.

All it really takes is one to come and others will follow.

Dolan is an absolute boob, but it is possible they get someone to come in, especially if they can bring in a second piece.

A lot is going to depend on what happens in the draft. Theoretically the Knicks could get a top 2-3 pick, and flip that pick for another player as well.

The Knicks are starting to accumulate assets and liquidity, lets see what happens.

For all the follies of the Knicks, New York is the largest media market in the world.
