Morey was actually quite smart by structuring the contract the way he did. For two years, he got great value from Lin...paying only $5M/yr for a player who played 28+minutes per game as a starter or 6th man.
Yao was the 1st overall pick in the draft, the best player from his country. Why would you compare him with Lin, who was undrafted, coming from a college conference who has less than a handful of players who have ever made it to the NBA?
Where have you seen any Lin fan say that Lin was on the same level as Yao from a basketball perspective?
and ppg in double-digit but Tinman and others like him conveniently scapegoat Lin for his supposed "under-achievement" come on The Rox offered a poisoned-pilled contract, to such an extent, to make sure no one else would bid on Lin. the ridiculous contract made Lin an easy target for scapegoating by people like Tinman
playoffs vs OKC , terrible and then hurt playoffs vs Portland, close series and critical errors leading to loss replaced by beverly given to lakers with nothing in return
that further corroborates the stupidity of Rox's decision to over-bid for FA Lin what is ur reason for being so afraid to hold Morey accountable for the stupid decision ? lift ur head outta the sand, and dispense w the convenient scapegoating !
Yes, this is correct. It's why the Knicks never bid on Lin. Very smart of Morey, knowing that Lin was easily worth $5M/year purely from a basketball performance perspective, and knowing that moving an expensive expiring contract was something easy to do if Lin's performance didn't jump in that last year. On balance, $8M/year for Lin for 3 years was perfectly reasonable for the performance he was capable of, and Morey got even more value out of it by trading him before the 3rd year of the contract. Lin is an easy target for scapegoating by people like Tinman because of Lin's fame and over-inflated expectations...the contract, in relative terms to players who were making similar money, was actually pretty much right on point with his performance.
Morey got fooled like everyone else . You can’t give contracts to people on streaks Tony Delk dropped 50 points before He never got a Lin contact But I’m taking the good with the bad . Morey is awesome
...and in Lin's last game with Houston, he left the court in Game 6 vs. Portland with a lead and .6 seconds left on the clock. No question this was the right move for Houston. Given the lack of fit with Harden, $15M was too much to pay him in his 3rd year. Beverley was cheaper and a better fit. And yes, it's hard to get anything in return for an expensive expiring contract. This is not exclusive to Lin.
Lin got the same contract that Omer Asik had. It was not any kind of ridiculous contract. Asik was signed to a contract after being a backup C in Chicago scoring 3ppg.
selective memory on ur part in exchange for the rights to a nobody w the Lakers, Sergei Lishchuk, Rox gave up Jeremy Lin as well as a future first round draft pick and a second round draft pick in 2015 ,
just because other teams make similar stupid mistake doesn't make Rox's decision to over bid on FA Lin any less stupid
as it relates to Lin's FA contract, no. after Morey offered Lin the poison pill contract, no one else made a bi
that's fair. so dispense w the convenient scapegoating on Lin, just because Morey made a stupid mistake on him
Why do you think the contract was stupid? $5M/yr for 2 years with an expiring year at $15M is very smart. It translated into a cap hit of $8M/year, which was average for a starting PG back then, and was very tradable in the 3rd year if the Rockets wanted to avoid the big salary that year. Getting Lin at $5M/year for 2 years was a bargain in retrospect.
That they were able to get a deal done is my point. Any idea of what those draft picks ended up being?
@Zboy @CometsWin The only fans who didn’t think Lin had a bad series as a rocket against Portland are obviously making an insecure excuse for absolute failure This isn’t missing a shot, it was a complete lack of awareness in a close and critical series Nobody is going to say that wasn’t one of the worst failures in playoff history
