take this out several years: Assuming we save our next big contract for bregman 2020 Springer Brantley Altuve Bregman Cruz Harper Realmuto Correa Guriel 2021 Brantley Altuve Bregman Cruz Harper Correa Alvarez Stubbs Straw 2022 Brantley Altuve Bregman Harper Alvarez Nova Stubbs Straw Beer
Screwed that up no Brantley in 21 or 22, but assuming you can get someone similar the point is we would still have a pretty daunting lineup and 2019 and 2020 would be incredible.
So much fun: CF Springer LF Brantley 2B Altuve 3B Bregman DH Cruz C Realmuto SS Correa 1B Gurriel/White RF Reddick BN: Gurriel/White, Diaz, Chirinos This gives us multiple players that can play around the field: Gurriel—1,2,3,SS White—1,2,3 Diaz—1,2,3,SS,LF Springer—OF Bregman—SS,2B,3B Brantley—LF,1B
Marisnick out of AAA. Then when he is gone, Straw. Would be interesting to see what would happen on a Springer day of rest, though. Or it could be more reason to ship White or Reddick.
Marisnick only has around 20 days of options. So pretty much he is on 25 man, traded, or cut. Astros are going to have a back up CF on the 25 man roster. It isn't Reddick. They tried him in 2017 and he had his worst fielding percentage since his rookie year. You can count on Marisnick or maybe Kemp being on 25 man.
I think you are right. If we sign Cruz, it’s almost guaranteed Reddick or White is gone. And it’s likely White, since I doubt he could handle RF full time.
That's why I would be surprised if we get Cruz. White makes more sense because he can at least play 1B and allow Gurriel to move around to give guys a day off. CF Springer LF Brantley 2B Altuve 3B Bregman SS Correa 1B/DH Gurriel 1B/DH White RF Reddick C Chirino/Realmuto* Bench: Diaz, Marisnick, Stassi/Chirino *Realmuto would hit higher in the lineup. Kemp could be the 4th guy on the bench if they go with 13 positional players. Tucker could be the RF if they trade Reddick but don't get Realmuto.
I don’t see Tucker being given the position. If I’m Luhnow, I sign Cruz unless I’m certain White is good enough to DH all year.

Right, I’m just thinking that we can flex the 5th rotation spot with the 3 from the pen and creatively stretch our rotation to keep everyone fresh. Also I like giving Tucker a real shot if he’s on our team, and I think that White and Reddick would make a good RHH/LHH tandem. Also could use the DH to give regular rest to others too. I think this approach may make the most of our 25 man roster. Also can send a pitcher to 7 day DL often for rest. Makes use of guys like Martin and Armeteros too.
I'm thinking Brantley gets a decent amount of playing time at DH if Astros don't add another bat like Castellanos or Martinez.
