I’ve heard a lot of people say he runs a very old archaic offense, and if it’s true, you know it’s only a matter of time before fans say “Harbaugh is a terrible play caller,” just how they complained about Bo’b’s play calling and kubiak before him.
Except I didn't say Kubiak was a terrible player caller, and he wasn't. Just as on objective fact, O'Brien builds mediocre offenses, Kubiak good offenses almost every year. "There are people who will complain about the new coach, therefore we should keep our current crappy coach" is a bad strategy for team success.
Colin Kaepernick would have been terrible in an old, archaic offense. Harbaugh built the entire thing around his unique skills. Michigan doesn't have much speed or a good QB, so the offense there reflects that.
I don’t know where this kubiak narrative is coming from. Here are the facts- Kubiak from 2006-13 2006 - 16.7 ppg 2007- 23.7 ppg 2008- 22.9 ppg 2009- 24.3 ppg 2010- 24.4 ppg 2011- 23.8 ppg 2012- 26 ppg 2013- 17.3 ppg 2015 Broncos- 22.2 ppg 2016 Broncos- 20.8 ppg Obrien 2014- 23.3 ppg 2015- 21.2 ppg 2016- 17.4 ppg (Osweiler) 2017- 21.1 ppg (34.6 ppg in Watson’s first six starts prior to ACL injury) 2018- 25.1 ppg Pretty similar stats except obrien had bottom of the barrel QBs and no offensive line. Yet, kubiak builds “good offenses” and obrien builds mediocre ones.
Give me a ****ing break. They need: New Guy who knows how to manage a game New OC New DC (what does BOB actually do at this point?) New OL X2 New DB X2 New RB New WR New ETC...
I cannot figure out why @mario_v is such a BOB acolyte. He's really the only one in Houston or on the internet. Why? Really kind of interesting.
I don't get it either. I'm pretty sure he's the only person I've seen defend BOB so either he's BOB himself, related to BOB, he's some kind of contrarian, or he knows it's ridiculous and he's doing it for the lulz.
Coach can literally do no wrong. Even when BOB says he "has to coach better", he really can't coach better.
Different eras. There have been rule changes and point inflation in the NFL. Relative to their eras, kubiak was top 10 and obrien bottom 10. One metric you can look at is dvoa. 2018 was the highest scoring NFL season ever. Also the defense scored a few TDS. I agree with you that obrien has had bad qbs and ols. Those are the players he chose. He's a bad talent evaluator. Kubiak built very good ols. Heck, obrien is still absurdly reliant on Hopkins, a guy kubiak drafted. 5 years later how is he still the only consistent threat at the skill positions? And Ill give you Fuller, but that's it? You can also just look at scoring offense. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/offensive-points-per-game?date=2013-02-03 Looks like O'brien's highest was 15th. Kubiak was only lower than that once (the schaub meltdown year). Even with Carr, Kubiak was 13th in scoring, and was top 10 several years. He also didn't always have the benefit of a defense giving him good field position (his fault on that)
Pat been defending O'Brien and the coaching staff; now he wants to say he needs an offensive mind. Yeah. We've BEEN saying that!
Therein lies the rub. We need someone to run the offense? Why the hell is he even on staff for at this point? That really only leaves two things BOB can contribute to. Player/personnel oversight and game prep/management. We already know he sucks everloving balls at #2, and the wrap sheet on #1 is not looking good. So, Bill...
I think that's actually a fair point, re: Watson and schemes & too many cooks in the kitchen. It *is* important for a young QB to have stability and consistency. Which is why - not sure I've mentioned this yet - the Texans should absolutely, positively give Tony Elliott - Watson's primary playcaller at Clemson - a call and offer him a job. The offense needs to be built around *Watson* - not BOB or his scheme. Watson.
