Applewhite had a dream situation he inherited from Herman. What a mess he has made. Very Levine-esque. Maybe worse. Good riddance to him. He is an embarrassment to our program.

    Boo.

Not that I was expecting a change.

FORT WORTH - Houston athletic director Chris Pezman said Saturday the school has shown a commitment to the football program in recent weeks amid a report head coach Major Applewhite's future could be in jeopardy.

The Cougars concluded an 8-5 season with a 70-14 loss to Army in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. In two full seasons, Applewhite is 15-11 with three bowl losses.

"Within the last several weeks, we have shown our commitment to our football program under Major with salary increases to specific positions in an attempt to retain his staff for the future," Pezman said in a statement.

Earlier Saturday, SB Nation, citing sources, reported that Applewhite's future at the school could be in jeopardy. The Cougars' 56-point loss matched the biggest in a bowl in FBS history.

I read that there is a buy out clause in Applewhite's contract that requires UH to pay him $1.9 mil to fire him now. Coogs just can't afford that sort of thing. Football/Sports is already in a huge deficit. What a mess.

Put me in the anybody but Applewhite camp. I would prefer a high energy prover track record high school coach preferably a UH alumni who has a high probability of being loyal and successful with this program if there is anybody out there that fits that description.

I don't see how you go back to Applewhite at this point. I also don't understand the idea of giving coaches a minimum of three years to prove themselves. If you see it isn't working at the end of year two, why wait?

This is a more trustworthy reporter, right? I'm just not familiar with SB Nation. I'm surprised Berman isn't breaking this.

If you polled all of the UH alumni I would bet upwards of 90% of us would be in favor of getting rid of Applewhite. Maybe closer to 100%. Applewhite has been a major disappointment and things are going to go from bad to worse if we keep him around.

Looks like Holgorson is in the bottom pay range for P5 coaches.

Amazing news. I was going to be really worried if they stuck with him.

Yeah, you're right iirc, had forgotten about that. Maybe this is just a ploy by his agent to get WVU to ante up some more and keep him happy?

No possible way yall could do better than him + plus a good DC.
