@ApacheWarrior. Do you think MCW is going to be traded soon for another open roster spot? My feeling is that Morey believes a lot in him, even though it's evident that he is unlikely to be able to do much for Houston.
https://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/Rockets-waive-center-Zhou-Qi-13473065.php The Rockets on Monday waived center Zhou Qi, ending a three-season experiment on the first day he was cleared to come back from his sprained ankle. A 7-1 center that the Rockets made the 43rd pick of the 2016 draft, Zhou showed initial promise, but was unable to become a more reliable range shooter or develop as a rim-runner in their offense. Battling injuries this season since training camp, Zhou played in just one game. Zhou played in 19 games with the Rockets, averaging 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds on 21.2 percent shooting in 6.6 minutes. In 31 games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, he averaged 11 points and seven rebounds. Zhou's contract was non-guaranteed this season, but teams are obligated to continue to pay players released while injured. He was upgraded to probable with a sprained ankle on Sunday. The Rockets still have four centers – Clint Capela, Nene, Marquese Chriss and Isaiah Hartenstein – on the roster, with Hartenstein, a second-round pick in 2017, considered a better prospect, leading to Monday's move.
AD has always had injury issues and has yet to prove he can lead a team in a deep playoff run. On the other hand, I have read that Qi has DPOY potential - scrubby AD has only made the first team all defense once.
Possibly, or just waive him outright soon because he is listed still as non guaranteed (maybe partial by now). Might be used as contract filler in a move between now and the trade deadline. There is a chance Morey is talking to a team that chose MCW over Qi in trade, thus Qi gets the boot as a roster spot is needed. Multiple players coming back......1 more than outgoing.
cont’d @saleem I don’t think Morey still feels the way he used to about MCW. He recognized what he has and has pull the rip cord on the MCW experiment. That doesn’t mean that a contender that needs a point guard doesn’t want to try playing him. Small contract that can offer another team without depth at PG body to play some backup minutes and maybe get lucky. Injuries happen and some teams don’t have as much as CP3/Harden and Eric Gordon acting as point guard.
Clutchfans think every scrub on the roster is the next star. If only Zhou Qi started at center..we could have been 28-0. Every year there's that one player. For a while it was V-SPAN. Then Lin. There's always someone.
