But if you were Ariza, what would you have expected?

"Oh Trevor, look what a path we are heading to! Take 5M off your salary book and let's have fun going for another crusade. "

    This is misleading...

They told him before he took meetings to go get paid. He took them up on it and he got paid. The Rockets wanted him to back out of the deal. He was unwilling to entertain that idea.

Somewhere Carl Herrera just banged out a quick one on a Subway napkin.

I've been telling you guys this for months now. He agreed to sign with the Suns just a few minutes into the FA signing period, then never looked back.

Meanwhile, half of CF has been raking Morey over the coals for being stupid and Tilman for being cheap.

It was most likely a waste of time by the time he knew he was inking a near 20 million dollar deal with Phoenix.

I wouldn't have wanted a sit down if we just said to him, "hey go get yours homie". Which he did.

That headline implies the Ariza wouldn't even talk to the Rockets. I have a hard time believing that. I'm sure they talked at length about his future with the team and a contract extension while he was still under contract. Once that was hashed out, was there anything left to discuss during FA?

We went 14-1 and should have been 15-0 without Ariza last season.

Ariza had to have already known what kind of offer the rockets were going to give him from the beginning. And it had to be significantly lower than what phx gave him. there's no point of a sitdown if he already knew this. he did say in his phx presser that all anyone wants is to feel appreciated

hard to see fault in ariza here. he did what he wanted

    Props to @KellyUnchained.

Trev wanted out and he got his wish AND got paid.

So the real question isn't why Morey and Tilman didn't try to keep him, it's why Trevor wanted out so badly.

I dont think he did. its the lack of money value morey and tilman didn't try to keep him. we already saw what they wanted and were willing to spend in the offseason. a bunch of minimums which got hou in trouble to begin this year

In my opinion, I think it just came down to money. Trevor probably sees that his time in the league is coming to a close and passing up on a HUGE payday would be stupid and ANYONE of us would have done what he did. He has a ring with the Lakers, he's been a key cog on a lot of teams over the course of his career...why not cash in while he still can? Especially when he looks down the bench last year and see a guy getting $20 million a year racking up DNPs while he's playing 38 minutes a night.
