I wasn't impressed with BOB or Watson this game. But goodness the Oline is back to hot garbage. I will say this, BOB barely ran it on first down. So he's making changes.
That was a classic Texans trap game. It felt different having Watson at the end of the game though. In years past after the Jets took the lead it would have been "here we go again", but with Watson it felt more like "eh he'll save us".
It felt like BoB got his 13 point lead early and just wanted to sit on it rather than put away the Jets.
That’s what he does with every lead. This should not be a surprise... or even a “feeling” anymore, that’s just how he rolls. And to his credit they once again had no turnovers. Watson was efficient as crap. Etc. It’s boring. It’s playing with fire, clearly. And it won’t work all the way to a super bowl ring in today’s offensive era. But it’s workong right now.
Honestly, if they had Fuller right now, I would be ok with Carter and feel the Texans have a legit shot at the superbowl. With the way Deshaun takes care of the ball at this point, the Texans could beat anyone in any which way they want to play. Conservative run the ball- Check Shoot out- Check Defensive showdown- Check The Texans need to get deeper at the WR position in free agency or add a very much viable TE in the off season.
I will let the facts speak to you. Below are all the Texans did on FIRST DOWN in Sat game against the Jet. First half, not counting the last drive with 2 plays within 30 seconds left, the choice between run and pass on first down is 5/5. Result : 3 FG and 1 long TD, leading 16:9 Second half, In the first 4 drives, the Texans ran 5 times on first down and only passed once. The result? 3 drives ended in 3 and out, 1 drive ended in FG. Classic BOB end game - 3 and out for a FG
Yes, that is the best a coach can do, is coach. At some point...is it within the QBs first 2 seasons?...he does need to master these things. He also needs someone to teach him (this is where there is much displeasure...is BoB that guy?)
Sorry, but Mike Tomlin has a Super Bowl Ring and another appearance and another AFC Championship appearance, and - Sorry Brian - has never finished under .500 in 12 years. I would love to hate our coach that much. Never understood why Tomlin isn't a god in Pittsburgh, they seem to complain about him every year.
It always fascinates me how little fans seem to pay attention to the *rest* of the league... Sure, offense is up. But look at the (likely) playoff teams and there only really only three pass-wacky teams. Meanwhile, there are a *slew* of playoff teams built just like the Texans: Baltimore, Dallas, Seattle, Chicago - plus contenders like Tennessee, Minnesota... even the Colts' defense is ranked higher than its offense. A lot of ink is spilled on Kansas City, Los Angeles and New Orleans because they're exciting - but they're more of an exception. And they're starting to show some strain - Dallas shut down the Saints; Chicago shut down the Rams; San Diego (mostly) shut down the Chiefs... There's a reason people have been saying "defense wins championships" for eternity - it's (mostly) true. The Texans' OL and lack of playmakers (beyond Hopkins, obviously) will likely spell eventual doom. But this idea that the playoffs are going to devolve into a Big 12 shootout and so the Texans' can't possibly compete........ I just don't see it. Their defense can keep it close and Watson seems completely unfazed by any pressure. It might not be *the* winning formula - but it's certainly not a losing one...
Los Angeles ...and the Chargers did it on the road. Top 4 teams might be Chargers, Saints, Texans, Bears as far as how they are playing now and how playoff-ready they look.
Geez Louise... speaking of fans not paying attention to the rest of league........ If the Texans can secure that first round bye, the Colts are the only Wild Card team that would scare me - and they might not make the playoffs.
Need keke back at 100%. If foreman can even show some of the flashes he showed last year and man oh man if fuller was healthy.
though I don't have a vote, I vote him for Coach of the year. It's a Houston thang. Coach of the year: (to the tune of "Logic") They said I couldn't do it. Back when I was running empty sets with Fitz, You said screw it. when I called a time out and had none, You shook your head in shame. Now you run to the spot yelling Billy like it's first down
Harbaugh also has a Super Bowl ring. Tomlin: 124-64 Harbaugh: 101-70 O'Brien: 41-37 (despite have a top 10 defense almost every year)
Gary Kubiak also has a SB ring... but I wouldn't necessarily brag about his career coaching record, including one of the greatest SB winning defenses of all time.
Yep. If I'm Bill O'Brien, I call Jeff Scott (Watson's OC at Clemson) and offer him a job. The NFL used to bend QBs to their will; now that they've gotten smarter and are more and more incorporating offensive elements that allowed these guys to thrive in college, the next logical step is to bring those coordinators in to build on what they've started.
