last 17 games -- oh, well. And to think we can get better with less sloppy turnovers, and better bench.

Question to BBS: Do these stats have any effect on your concerns regarding what the major problems are with the team?

The crazy part is the Offense could actually be better. . . MUCH BETTER
    CP3 is like CP2.5 . . maybe CP2
EGO is deflated . .. more like ESO-SO
and those are major cogs in the machine

The work that needs to happen is the DEFENSE
So . .. honestly. . . . who ever we bring in . . . we worried more about their DEFENSE than any offensive talent they bring
This is why I am not generally worried about anyone coming in . .. we will work them into the offense
    but
    they must help the defense

Check out Melo stats so you can see the previous Def Rating too.

    Wow.

    Seriously, just WOW.

A really good 3&D wing guy could turn things around for us. Man, I wish we could somehow get Covington back.

    unfair correlation...
    1) Tons of key injuries early on...
    2) Beginning of season before guys got in rhythm
    3) MDA had to focus on defense wo Bzdelik...

    Our defense is the issue.

I made no correlation. Let's call it a coincidence, then.

Fact remains, 17 games is a significant stretch of games (at a rather large 3pt gap above any other team) to show that we aren't really #5-7 in offense. Whatever caused us to be 27th offense in first 10 games is best ignored, wrt what our problems are now, and how we should focus on fixing them (via trade, practice, rotations, etc).

The only metric that matters is Point differential... where do they rank in that metric ?

Points per possession .... where do they rank ?

BTW Melo hasn't been traded .... he's still on the roster.

What's crazy is that we're 29th in pace (95.5), with only Memphis playing slower. Last year we were 13th, and 3rd the year before.

not to be nitpicky... but the title presents it as an obvious correlation... lol

Harden missed 30% of the games Melo played... and none since... I'd say thats a pretty big affect... jus sayin... lol

But Tillman's too cheap to make this offense even more super duper awesome.

Uhh, okay so I tried looking that up, there is no(at least as far as I looked) points per possession for teams. The point is that it is looking increasingly like our offense is not the problem. We might be number one by the end of the season in offense.

Also yes our point differential is bad, we've had the second worst defense in the same stretch as well.

This thread is so necessary. Thank you OP.

Trading Knight and a first for a big defensive wing who can't be ignored at the 3pt line should be our #1 priority. There are people asking if we should get Jabari Parker FFS.

correct, Net better helps measure how good you are, and whether you should make a move or change things (rotation, practice/ system focus), or stand pat.

But Net wouldn't help you choose what moves/changes to make. That's where looking at offense and defense separately comes into play.

Not really, if you want to talk about what we became for the playoffs last year, and thus our Run It Back system.

We were two teams last year wrt Pace. Like @Corrosion says wrt this year, took awhile for Rockets after significant Summer 2017 additions to settle on their identity, last year.

Here are stats before and after Harden's return from the Hammie injury, last year:

29th in Pace after Harden's return on January 18th

8th in Pace prior to January 18th

We are 9-8 without him. Time to move on to the next scapegoat.

OK, but I think you might be too focused on an old debate from earlier in the season, if that's what you thought the thread was about.

Some of us were saying (me included; MDA too it seems hence EGo starting), "Offense is a problem because we were #1 last year, and now we're #7-8" ... well ... looks like we've actually settled into #1 again, with a huge 3pt gap between us and the field -- leading me to the Question to BBS in the OP, now that we are in trade season full on.

Hopefully you want to talk about where we are now, and not about why the 1st 10 games happened. The point of Thread Title was to show how our #7-8 ORtg is not indicative of where we are now, but rather it's a big #1 stretch averaged with a #27 stretch, using Melo merely as a historical marker for why I chose 17 games.

Best part of EG starting is it diversifies the offense from the get go. I like having THREE players that can put the ball on the floor to create a shot. Versus two guys and two stand still shooters.

And further, I think with EG starting, it gives Green and House more license to look to score from the bench. They are playing with more purpose and urgency.
