He ain't hurt right now. My point is Bruce was on the team. He was healthy. Has good chemistry with Watson. And you just release him? He has 23 catches in 4 games. In the last four games, Carter AND Coutee have combined for 15 catches. Even if as a backup/insurance slot, they could have kept Ellington.
O'brien should consider going more pistol formation in lieu of full uggs. There are not enough receivers that can get open when you insert webb into the mix. At least in pistol, Webb wouldn't have to be out there. You can bring 2 TEs if you want to and eat your cake of having watson not under center too. We were in gun 59% of the time today a little more than what we've been in the past 4 games where it was basically 50/50. But once Carter went down, we should have continued with the double TE sets. I don't have the stats for those but Watson's Ratings must be off the charts when multiple TEs are in the game. fancy stats nerds where you at? Imagine if Jordan had gone under concussion protocol. Still puzzled why he wasn't. It was a direct hit to the helmet. We could have been going to new york with only 2 TEs and 2 real receivers.
Watson had a real bad game yesterday he needs to learn to read the blitz better and get rid of the ball. I understand he is a playmaker but that is when he is out of the pocket but when your in the pocket and collapsing throw the ball away don't take negative yardage. Holds on to the ball too long and needs to do better at managing the clock.....too many times this season there has penalties for delay of game.
receivers need to get open more.. your using Webb (instead of coats) that should tell you something. is there not any street free agents WR's that can help us?
It's the NFL injuries and situations like happen every week to every team. So it IS a problem but not THE problem. Yesterday offensive issue was the lack of running game. For whatever reasons the running game was trash and usually for this team when that happens Watson, BOB, and the offense are trash.
That's a problem too. Probably the most important problem with the offense. It starts with the run. If they can't run the ball, the rest of the offense struggles to make up. The next thing on the list to help the running game is the short passing game. That's why the slot WR position is as important.
This could be the tag line for the season every year, for basically every Houston sports franchise. No need for "Run as 1" or "Persuit" or "We Are Texans". A perpetual "There's Always Next Year" works just fine.
One of BOB's prominent years as Pats OC, he didn't have a 1000 (or even 900) yard rusher. Instead they stretched the field horizontally, and used short quick strike passes as ways to nickel and dime yards out of a defense. We don't have a TE with Aaron Hernandez's elite skillset, but I don't believe Danny Woodhead was a one of a kind RB. BOB needs a fallback plan when the run doesn't work, or if he's ever down by more than 7 points, and he already witnessed firsthand the blueprint. Even yesterday all of the TEs were doing work.
Care to expand on how the Texans scored 21 pts and DW4 missed 2 easy TD passes which should have made the score 35 pts and somehow BOB's gameplan was awful?
Scoring 21 points isn't an amazing feat against a defense that averages giving up 23 a game. The Colts don't have a good defense, if BOB came with a solid game plan, the Texans could have put up 40 given the talent they have. Literally every pass attempt to a TE on the Texans ended in a completion, yet we went away from it instead of continuing to exploit that......while continuing to try and run Lamar Miller up the middle for a loss of yards on nearly every first down even if the Colts stacked the LOS, even if the team was down multiple scores and it was getting late in the game. If the Texans fired BOB and replaced him with an even halfway competent offensive coordinator and just didn't fill the head coach spot, they'd be in a better spot going forward than sticking with BOB and allowing him to gimp the offense.
DeSean Jackson was the move to make instead of Thomas. Jackson was the logical replacement for Fuller.
Yet if Watson had thrown better passes 2 times in the EZ the Texans would've scored 35 and that's not good enough for you.
And yet it didn't happen. If Lamar Miller ran for 10 yards per carry, we'd have scored even more. You have to look at what actually happened. Could Watson have bailed out BOB by playing at an elite level? Sure, but you can't rely on that.
