No conversation about DM’s biggest mistake ever, which the OP asked, should involve Ennis or Melo. Not that he’s made a lot of mistakes, but he’s been doing this for 12 years now. He’s had a few blunders here and there. Some more costly than others. Passing on Kawhi, Lawson trade, Ryno signing, Royce White and Terrence Williams are the names that come to mind for me.
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here, but consider that the Durant Warriors are without a doubt the best top 4 to ever play on one team at the same time. The fact that the Rockets were able to get more than one win against them in a 7 game series is noteworthy in and of itself - no other team in the last two years has been able to achieve that.
I am not sure when they turn it on and when they do not play well. Spoiler 2016-2017, in Durant's first year, they played extremely well and 100% true to their talent level. They finished with a 67 win record. I think they swept 3 teams in 3 playoff rounds. And lost only 1 game to the Cavs. 2018 they had a significant drop off in the regular season and part of the playoffs. Because Curry was not at his best against the Pelicans. He clearly came back in the 2nd round and wasn't at his best. It can be a historic team, best team in the league, and they could still leave some potential untapped. As good as Kev Cupcake Durant is, Lebron's skillset would fit the GSW much better. They need a Lebron or to a lesser degree Anthony Mason type of scorer and facilitator.
Signing Ryan Anderson, letting Mbah Moute walk, signing Michael Carter Williams, signing Carmelo Anthony.
Throwing in First Round Picks Every Year makes a huge setback in the Roster Players Age, Youth, Athleticism, Talent Gap having a 1st Rd talent than the Rockets Players now with late 2nd Rd Players, Undrafted Rookies who are struggling to fit in right away. 1st Rd Talent are Rotation Ready if you Draft Correctly, which Daryl has been reckless throwing away 1st Rd Picks.
Waiting a month for Melo and saving the MLE for buyouts after we declared "we'll have our pick of the free agents" remains Morey's worst moment
Scott Foster and Mike Callahan being awarded to ref Game 7 of the 2018 WCF Knight getting an infection from his surgically repaired knee Rondo spitting in CP3's face CP3 injuring his hammy Harden injuring his hammy Melo unwilling to take a lesser role CP3 resting MDA inheriting the cloak of invisibility when the opposing coach makes an adjustment ... are probably the answers to the question I think you're asking. But to answer your question being asked: Passing on Kawhi Leonard in the draft Signing MCW Not trying to prolong the Melo situation
letting Ariza and Luc walk ? i really hate when people bring this up as if he had a choice in where they play. they were not restricted free agents, he had no say in where they signed
Probably has something to do with them being an all time great team and having a top 3 player willingly take a paycut to play for an all time great team. Also we are only talking about Livingston and Iggy. GSW will have to make hard decisions like the Rockets did this last offseason as the cap effects them too. They can't keep Curry, Thompson, Draymond, and Durant.
Ariza gave us good service but he wasn't going to give up 15 million, which he isn't worth it. We only lost 2 players and one of them had no impact in the Playoffs and blew open lay ups like i keep saying, every season, things change. We have had injuries and haven't had a settled line up at all. Other teams have improved as well. just because we start the season not as we would have hoped, doesn't mean it is as easy as saying it is because we don't have Ariza or Luc anymore. Our record was amazing without them last season when they were injured. Ariza hasn't improved the Suns at all. He is shooting worse than last season. Mbah A Moute is injured again at LAC GS won the title, why would they leave ?
It has to be the Ryan Anderson contract for me. Among everything, the most salient question is: What if we could've put $20M somewhere else during that 2018 playoff run? Now we're left with Knight and Chriss just taking up the same space.
Multiple championships will make it easier for them to stay. And knowing that the management value long term chemistry. Real Shocker.
He could have come out and said something along the lines of “we’re excited to see what happens in free agency. We think we can really add some helpful players” Not that cocky BS he came out with.
