Talent and BOB wanting to keep Watson healthy is a big part of this. BOB is too conservative for my taste, he's just doing what he thinks gives his team it's best chance to win with the talent on hand. You can disagree with BOB but he's going to do things his way.
How was BOB a dick? When you take these things into account, 1. Swearinger stiffed the pimp my ride dude 2. His dog bit Clowney at 3am 3. He refused to play ST's (Cancer)
Do you really think BOB thought Mallett/Hoyer were going to be elite QB's? They were supposed to be placeholders until an elite QB could be found and developed.
Again, this narrative is BS. Outside of TD passes, every single one of DW4's offensive stats is better than they were during his "amazing" rookie performance. For whatever reason, people have rose colored glasses about DW4's 6 starts in 2017 - which were anything but stellar. DW4 had more turnovers (8) in those six games, than he did in nine games this season (7) - and his winning percentage is 16.67 points better because of it. In 2018 DW4 has a better completion percentage, better yards per game, better yards per attempt, lower interception rate, fewer turnovers, and more wins than he had in 2017. Literally the only stat that is not better is his TD passes, but his huge decrease in turnovers more than makes up for that. Not to mention, Rick Smith signed the Lobster without even consulting BoB.
Sure this excuse is gonna pacify many, hell I agree y we keep running run plays, but does that excused the sht hc from calling literally one running play over and over?
And he got the best out of those two, as well as Fitzpatrick, compared to anything else they've done in their careers. Yes, blame him for those QB choices... but I also ask, who else should they have gone after? I am happy in whoever was the one who decided to pull the plug on Osweiler (and take the risk of drafting Watson) after just one year.
I did not realize this. Even with this terrible OL, the Texans will win alot of games with Watson not turning the ball over. True
Actually, the 2015 Ryan Fitzpatrick (with the Jets) takes down both years.... but he did credit BOB with the resurgence in his career that year.
With the exception of W/L record and interception percentage, he is much better this year than 2015 providing he maintains his pace over their last 7 games.
I expect regression. And plenty of picks. They scored all of 3 points last week. He does have Mike Evans now... but he will be the first one to tell you that he was a better overall QB back then. And yes, wins are quite important... some QB's can have pedestrian numbers, but if they win games, they're heralded.
Neither one of us will ever know that answer to that. But he thought enough of them to bring them here and have them to compete for the starting job. You don't know that for a fact. Was you reading O'brien's mind when he select them.
He went after them because they knew the system he employed. But all the benching was very Bush league. He never wanted Brock here in the first place so he didn't really coach him up. Another Bush league move on his part.
After seeing Os this year I dont think that Coaching him up was possible. What is possible is that Hoyer was better than Os. Think about that for a minute.
The Browns thought he was one as well. Then the injury happened. And if he was coached up and actually didn't have to worry about the high school benching crap or had a few years in this Obrien system. Who knows. We shouldnt have go that many freaking QBs like that. Then we couldve drafted Watson.
There have been good QBs drafted every year obrien has been here. 2014- Carr, Garroppolo 2015- Mariota, Winston 2016- Goff, Wentz, Prescot Now the argument usually goes that he couldn't have possibly known these guys were gonna be good, or McNair didn't want Carr, or he didn't want to trade all those picks to get Goff. Fair enough, but it's still his job to find a QB. But even if you excuse him for that, what is the excuse for letting Fitzpatrick go for Hoyer and Mallet? They are clearly worse. If Fitzpatrick is just a placeholder, why not sign him another year or two? Then he even manages to make that situation worse by benching Fitzpatrick for Mallet and then benching Hoyet for Mallet. Mallet is clearly the worst and not even in the league anymore. How could he possibly not see that and think mallet is starting caliber? On top of that is trading Keenum away then signing Mallet. So he ends up getting rid of Fitz/Keenum and rolling with Hoyer/Mallet as his supposed "placeholders" (allegedly). But even if you excuse that as well, he did a worse job coaching Osweiler then anyone else, but then you can say that's all Osweiler's fault. (obrien always has an excuse). Then he finally gets a good QB who shows flashes of being able to carry an elite offense last year before getting hurt, but then this year with Watson the offense sucks anyways! Ranked in the bottom 10. We can also get into how he has screwedup the OL in similar fashion (risking Watson's health) and his bad playcalling, time out management and challenge play calls. I don't know what he's done that merits him continuing as coach other than letting Crennel build possibly the best defense in the league which he might waste again
