First Jazz basket: Ricky Rubio Nashes under the basket, and shoots wide-open. No hand up from DAJ. I guess you can support this one by saying that Rubio midrangers are fine, but... at least get a hand up! Second Jazz basket: Donovan Mitchell just comes off a screen and takes a wide open jumper. DAJ doesn't even step to him, nor put a hand up. He's the Jazz's biggest scoring threat! He even seems surprised with how open he is. After that basket, Carlisle called timeout. Given how much DAJ isn't trying to help, he decides to help him by having Doncic help off Joe f-ing Ingles, one of the best shooters in the game, stop the roll man, leaving DAJ to care(?) about the driver. The results are predictable. The Jazz, bored with scoring from Gobert picks, go to a Favors PnR instead. Gobert is right on the edge of the paint, but doesn't even consider helping off of him to prevent a sizable emergency: Favors rolling to the rim for an alley-oop dunk Exciting news for Jordan: he got the ball! Bad news: it was immediately stripped, then Gobert just outhustles Jordan down the floor as he mopes. Gobert gets the ball, and DAJ arrives just in time to foul Gobert for the and-one: A minute later, DAJ just completely doesn't box out Gobert on a Jingles three attempt, even as Gobert stands on the far side of the rim (where rebounds are most likely to go). Gobert, with no resistance at all, gets the rebound and dunks it home.
DJ is not better than Capela. He's looked fine as a Mav, even gets the ball a lot on that team, but he can't guard the perimeter as well as Capela and just doesn't run the floor as hard consistently like Capela does. I don't believe DJ has ever showed out in the playoffs like Capela did against the Twolves
You want to compare DJ's past playoff performances with Capela's playoff performance for 5 games against a dysfunctional 8th seed?????????? Stupid comparison.....but even if you compared all that....it's pointless anyways. That's in the past. I'm talking about where both players are at today. There's no discernable difference in them other than that DJ is bigger, longer, stronger, has more stamina, and is a better defender and free throw shooter than Capela.
DeAndre spoke with the Rockets this summer, we told him we were interested in him but we obviously had no way to pay him so, here's the plan we agreed with him. He signed his fat one year deal with Dallas and will force his way out as soon as possible, acting like a cancer to force the Mavs to buy him out once they're are out of the playoffs run and with a chance to retain their 1st rounder (which is owed to Atlanta but protected in top 5). At that point he'll sign with us for the MLE, another 1 year deal next summer with the no birds in order to be able to sign a reasonable deal with the early birds in two years and close his career with us. Obviously the key here is that this plan will allow us to trade Capela when a good enough player like Winslow will be available. Spoiler Sorry @basketballholic couldn't resist this one
It sounds like DJ is just "coasting" again with the Mavs like he did in the last year with the Clips. He knows the team isnt going anywhere so he is collecting a check. Honestly, if he was "playing for something" I bet he would be better. I didn't think DJ would be a buyout candidate...but it looks like that could happen.
Ariza and DJ gonna take the pay check and force their way out. We get them at min, championship guranteed
The only Mavs player I really care about watching is Luka. He's a superstar. And he'll make them formidable again. Love how he plays the game. Hate that he's a Mav.
Awesome. With holic's endorsement Doncic will for sure wash out. Maybe we can get DD to back him too.
DJ been a poor team defender for a while. I don’t know why the Mavs are surprised. I don’t really care if DJ is better than Capela or not because DJ replacing Clint isn’t making this team any better. It actually might make it worse. Capela has a lot better hands and better touch around the rim, that’s not debatable. DJ has been overrated on D for quite some time. He is big super athletic still and is a presence in the paint and still rebounds at an elite level. but he’s been pretty damn lazy for a few years now. Capel is younger faster plays harder and makes less money. I don’t know why holic doesn’t like Clint he’s not the problem. We need more shooters who can defend and a backup center.
