Make the Miami Heat "Vice City" Jerseys Permanent Already, You Cowards
    JERRY IANNELLI | NOVEMBER 6, 2018 | 8:00AM

The National Basketball Association in 2017 stumbled upon what might have been the happiest jersey-related accident in the league's sartorial history. The NBA gave each team a new, third-jersey option as part of the "City" jersey series. Each team got a jersey designed to reflect something about its "culture" — and while some cities wound up wearing utterly hilarious nonsense, the Heat ended up with a set of glorious pink-and-teal jerseys that are 100 percent without question better than the team's current wardrobe. The script logo even references the sign from the old Miami Arena.

The Heat on Monday released a black 2018 version of the Vice City jersey to similar fanfare. So allow New Times to vocalize what everyone is thinking: Let's just make these the permanent Miami Heat jerseys already.

Judging by jersey sales, social media reactions, and our own eyesight, pretty much everyone in Miami agrees with that sentiment. According to ESPN, the Heat's "Vice City" jerseys from 2017 are the single highest-selling third-jersey series in NBA history and outsold every other "City" jersey combined. The NBA was reportedly overwhelmed by demand for Miami Heat Vice City jerseys, sold out of initial stock, and had to set up a waiting list for more merchandise.

With both black and white versions of the Vice City jersey now in circulation, the Heat has away and home jerseys sitting and ready for use. You could easily repaint American Airlines Arena when the Heat is gone during a road trip. Just dunk team mascot Burnie in a vat of neon-blue dye and you're set.

Heat city jerseys are pure. Probably the best city jersey overall the past 2 years.

Local. For Miami. For South Florida. Not influenced by any other country or continent.

This just in....."Jerseys sell well when they are cool."

    What an "auspicious" concept!

Maybe this is Nike's way of saying "Oh, your best MVP player is with Adidas? Hmm well...I don't know if we have time to design your City jerseys...sooo...can we just use the shitty ones y'all have had before? THANKS!"

Yeah, Miami's got the best ones for sure. I like Toronto's for its clean style, also Minnesota and New Orleans. All others are either meh, or just crap.

The Heat nailed this. Hopefully a few other teams can also.

Haha who knew indeed that a great design with a relation to the city actually sells and fans want to wear. Something lost on a lot of teams, the Rockets on top of the list.

Not only the jerseys, but the fact that the Heat have a specific "playing court" tied to the theme. It is the entire package. Kudos to them!

If we could get off China's D for half a second, and transition over to something like a NASA theme......we could accomplish something similar to this. But alas, I just have to live vicariously through Miami fans.

I do not buy sports gear anymore at my age. Hell, given that I work from home, I don't really buy new clothes in general.

That said, I would buy a nicely designed red, white, and blue NASA inspired Rockets jersey on day one. Well, maybe not a jersey, but definitely a shirt.

just look at the way turd brown and morley dress. these guys have zero concept of fashion so it's no surprise our jerseys are consistently the worst every season. meanwhile riles has always been dapper and even singlehandly made the curved spread collar a huge trend in the 80's. our front office has no taste on top of the fact that they keep whoring after that china money

one more thing, that Rokit patch on our jerseys looks so unprofessional. i swear it's about to fall off on the shoulder side by the 4th Q of our games, it's like they're using glue stick or something
