Looking at 4 box score links doesn't seem like a whole lot of work in order to know what I'm talking about. This board would have a lot less garbage on it if a few more people did the same before posting. Ariza hardly guarded Davis, you can't really draw any conclusions about what his effectiveness would be over a full game. If you think he's our best defender on AD, then why do you think that we hardly ever had him guard him? E'twan Moore was more important? If you want to strictly go by a small sample size then Anderson was a better defender on Davis than Ariza was. You can't make a judgement based off of 21 possessions over 3 games.
I'm pretty optimistic about James Ennis, and the Pelicans game didn't change my optimism. What a shame about Ariza leaving, though. For the first time as a Rocket, he wouldn't have to average more than 30 minutes a game since he'd have a competent backup in Ennis. If Trevor does somehow return via a buyout (though I think that's highly unlikely), we'll be in really good shape at the SF position.
Which is the same case with any non "counting" stat such as PER, Offensive Rating, Defensive Rating, Plus/Minus, Win Shares, On/Off court, etc... In all these cases there's exceptions where the stat isn't always accurate but over a large sample size they tend to be a good representation.
Ennis is not a bad player as a 15-20mpg energy guy off the bench. As a starter he just getting exposed though.
I googled: james ennis trevor ariza compare And two of the top links that came up were this very CF thread: "James Ennis is no Trevor Ariza." OP, if you want to badmouth Rockets players, I wish you would wait a while rather than joining ClutchFans on Sept 29, 2018 and promptly starting to dump on them. Go dump your important feelings elsewhere, dude.
Let's see what he looks like with JB back coaching the D and he has played more than 4 games. You guys are tough. Can we give him 15 games then we critique performance?
EXACTLY. I'm really optimistic with Ennis especially since bzdelik is coming back. I think he coachedchim in Memphis so theres some familiarity.Ennis is still getting used to the switching but he'll get it
